Marv D 01-01-2005, 10:35:00 AM Skip right over the 6AL and look at the features and price on the MSD digital 6, or a Mallory digital box. In todays world there is just no reason to buy a box that has to have all the add on's when they come built in to the digital boxes. If you buy a 6AL and even ONE add-on, and a bag of chips to activate it, you've spent more than the digital boxes cost. 1981coupe400ci 01-01-2005, 02:30:00 PM what can i get for my 6a box??? its had the 4 sleeve rivets drilled out and then it was sealed with something clear in color so nothing can get in it.. the digital 6.. whats the diffrence from that and the 6AL?? i dont really need anything other than a rev limiter with the box.... is it worth the extra $$ to have the extras of te digital 6 even if i may never use it?? i may eventually run a nitrous kit(if i dont go with a tunnel ram) but the nitrous kit will only be a 50HP shot so i can just pull the 1.5-2*(2* per 75hp shot i heard) when i set the timing.. since 2* isnt REALLY that much... please let me know i'm new to using an ignition box... i've always used a standard HEI [This message has been edited by 1981coupe400ci (edited January 01, 2005).] camaro71/holland 01-01-2005, 04:20:00 PM Go to: MSD (http://www.msdignition.com/) and read about their products. The 6+ has already 2 rev limiters, a ignition retard for nitrous and some other features. Might be worth the money. tgw323 01-02-2005, 12:39:00 AM You can send it to MSD & get it converted to a 6T. Check to see what their current pricing is. night rider 01-02-2005, 02:25:00 AM The diffrence from digital to 6AL in just the things it has is big. low and high side rev limiter (one for burn out, or launch, other for top end rpm limiter) N20 retard. Yeah you can pull 2* out by hand every time you want to spray, then set it back 2* advanced when running N/A, but thats alot of trouble, time and tools. In timing 2* is ALOT. At 34* total I run great on 93 octane, 36* total mine pings like hell on the same fuel, same day, same temp. In High HP race cars 2* total timing can be worth as much as 15-20 hp (not common, wont happen on a street engine) Start retard.. If you run high compression, or locked out dist, when you go to crank the engine, the starter will drag, with the start retard, when cranking, it will retard timing so the engine won't drag the starter. |
