So guys since most of us have already put the car away what is the one thing (or more) that you want to try and achieve this winter with the camaro.

Personally i think im going to try and recover my passenger side seat if i can find time being at school and all but i did the driver side last winter with some friends and i think maybe i'll attempt the passenger side this winter next.

O...i've been wanting to do that also...Bill and i were talking about it at one point, but never decided when to do it or which set to buy...maybe a bunch of us could get together early spring and help each other and all do it? It's a fairly inexpensive upgrade.

Deffinatly..i never had the urge to do the other seat i got too involved in doing all of the suspension work to the car instead of the interior...

Yeah im still down for that conversion! Just gotta scrape some money together for it. I guess my main project for this winter is to make some money to get things done to it. I still gotta have the hood painted, not to mention my rusting drivers fender! Much work to be done young jedi!:whine:

With the days getting shorter and shorter this time of year, I moved the headlight upgrade to the top of the wish list.

They look pretty good but the best part is how much better they are at night. I highly recommend the upgrade.

Which kit did you use and from where? Also did you do the upgraded wiring as well?

This is the kit from Detroit Speed which comes with a small wiring harness to adapt the new style lights (9007) to our existing harness. It's literally a plug-n-play installation.

Edit: My car does have an upgraded 18-circuit wiring harness from Painless wiring but an upgrade shouldn't be necessary if you're just swapping the headlights.

Eric, how's school going? Bring the seat up to school and do it during one of those boring hall lectures
Headlight upgrade...done (kinda). I installed relays for the lights when I did the elec fan install. What a difference, much brighter even with the stock lights. Chris71 RS - Did you add relays?
My winter upgrade...TKO600 :) ...if I ever find some time.

Thats cool Brendan....dont sweat it. I really cant put the moey together to have it painted now anyway. Most shops I went to gave me a price of about $300, so I just gotta get a couple of EXTRA bucks together. Things are kinda tight now with the holidays and stuff coming up. I'll have it done probably around tax return time :)

Steve, I did add headlamp relays mainly because I upgraded the bulbs to 4,300k HID lamps.
Before I swapped bulbs and added the ballasts, I did see a difference in intensity by simply adding the relays to the stock halogens.

Here's the link to the detroit speed headlamps: http://www.detroitspeed.com/productpages/indproduct/electricalprod/driver_headlights_prod.htm

A little pricey but a no-nonsense kit. I believe they said there was a weight saving of almost a pound per headlamp. That should be good for at least 8 MPG and a second off my 0-60 MPH times. ;)

now where would you guys say would be buy the relays? and are they simple to instal (BTW: i HATE wiring)

Also...Steve what kit did you use?

Bringing the seat up here wouldn't be a bad idea but in a dorm room there isn't much space for extra stuff.

Also college is going well thanks for asking i've just about adjusted to everything going on and starting to enjoy it...i like being in a city compared to being at home in the middle of nowhere...anyday of the week there is always something going on that you can do which is deffinatly a nice thing.

Hey guys
I just found the NY section
I stopped looking at the NE section becouse nothing seemed pertenant
Now I 'll check here every day

I'm in the process of building my house so not much time to spend working on the car.
My wife thinks I'm crazy becouse i put radiant heat in the garage
It was the first heat hooked up

But I think about it all the time
I'm collecting the parts I think I'll need
I pull the cover off it and dream about once a month

Hope to make some of the car shows and meet you guys next season

Last summer I saw a very nice 70-73 in New Paltz
It was blue with a blower sticking out of the hood
Is it any one here

Welcome Tom, We attempted to get a few gatherings together last year in the NE Section and were able to get a few small meets but this summer im hoping to get a nice big BBQ with maybe 10-15 members! You will find that all of the NY members are awesome guys and we all love our camaros. There is also a wide age range between some of us but we still share that same common bond. Hope to see you this spring/summer at a gathering!

That garage sounds like its gonna be sweet and a nice place for your camaro to be in...good luck on building the house and garage.

The camaro BBQ sounds great
I'm thinking of the menu already
Z28 chili
RS burgers
Sport Coup dogs
SS ribs
Can you tell I'm ready for spring

We'll have to line them up and take a few pics

The house isn't done yet and already I need more garage space

Hell yeah man!!! The BBQ we were thinking about doing in LaGrange at Baird Park it seemed like a decent point for the locals and maybe a few Long Islanders will show up also! I like the menu i like it...and pictures will be a DEFFINATE then we can try and get the in the calender to show the New Yorkers!!! This year we have i believe 2 New Yorkers in the calender (OnerealZ and I) and we have 2 or 3 more in the caloge (sp) in the back...as well as the rear of 4 of our 79 camaros on the back cover!!! Pictures are a deffinate what ever we do and where ever we go!!! I like the way you are thinking!

Tom, glad to see you found this forum. We'll definately have some get togethers starting in the spring. Maybe we should schedule a BBQ at one of the Bear Mountain cruises. Then there's the Lake George show. And EVERYONE HAS to go to Carlisle GM/Camaro Nationals. Where else can we have over 50 2nd gens all lined up in a row! :) As Eric said, a great bunch of guys ranging in age from 17-50. (...errr... make that 51. LOL)

Eric, I used the MAD Electrical kit ($24) http://www.madelectrical.com/. I also did several other upgrades like the remote solenoid and re-wiring alternator and junction blocks. Their kits are excellent quality and easy to understand instructions. If you call them, be prepared to BS with Mark Hamilton for an hour. LOL. He's a really nice guy and loves to discuss old chevy's and their electrical circuits. I think he worked at GM many years ago.

I might make the treck up when the weather is warm again... I just worry if it will make it.. its hard to drive this car lightly, always wind up breaking something. But I love working on it, so I don't mind so much.

Then again, I did buy the car down in Florida and drove it all the way back up to NY. Pretty amazing trip.. amazing I got it up here in one piece.

Keep me posted on the meet.

Hey guys.. My plans are to have this thing mobile by next weekend.. I've got two more things to do as far as wiring, a push-button start (just b/c I think its cool lol) and the headlight upgrade..

For the headlight upgrade I was just going to buy (2)30amp relays and wire it myself.. It doesnt really seem difficult.. Will update when I am done..

Gotta make some brackets for my sidepipes (that I keep putting off)..

Next weekend I should have the parts I need to replace for my rear brakes(b/c I threw out some springs that dont come in the kits, thanks Patgizz for hooking me up ;) ).. then bleed the brakes..

During the week gonna try and get my inner fenders, front bumper assembly and fenders back on as well as the hood(hopefully my RPM intake and K&N will clear).. With my luck, as soon as I am done next weekend it'll snow..

But definitly count me in for the spring/summer cruises..

The headlight relays are pretty simple. http://www.angelfire.com/planet/74camaro/headlight_relay_install.htm
(I think I got at least this page back up and running again.)
I played around a bit today. Changed the oil, tuned the carb and timing. Washed all the dust off. Then went for a short drive. It was a nice sunny day. Good luck getting it rolling. :)

Speed sounds like your kicking ass with the car...can't wait to check it out this summer i really wanna see that suspension on that thing...also can't wait to meet you and keep up updated on the wiring.

Steve your lucky you got to take yours out been a nice weekend, but mine is away for the winter almost too much of a hassel to take it out for an hour cruise...oh well it'll just make it that much more fun when the time comes in April.

Just an FYI for the locals...
The 383 is getting yanked within the next week. I'm probably going to part it either in pieces or packages. So here's what I'll be selling (as long as these parts look good)

Short block 4bolt .030 clearanced with 400 forged crank and forged pistons & all tin. (I have the paperwork from race shop for the build)
Sportsman II heads complete w/ roller rockers (1.5's iirc)
Performer Intake.
Stock GM HEI
Holley 670 Avenger (<500 miles)
Sanderson Shorty headers with custom 2.5" bent downpipe (so you can bolt it right up to your existing or new exhaust)
1 used short water pump and probably 1 brand new long pump.
Any other odds and ends i can't use on the new motor.I prefer not to ship this stuff, so I'm looking to deal at our get togethers.

Steve...please send me some info on the 383...i could possibly be VERY interested in it :) ... any guesses on power from it would help..any leaks? and why you're pulling it? But if we could maybe work a deal..this could be a homerun for both of us!!!!!

So pm me a price and such...i'd be looking for complete motor minus the carb.

Steve's 74
12-27-2006, 01:36:04 PM
It was running really sluggish, I have to pull it apart to see for sure what the story is. Then I can give you some ballpark prices. It's an old school stroker. Lots of low end torque but not designed for spinning 4000+ rpm. It gets about 8mpg on the highway. No leaks. dyno'd at 382HP/425ft-lbs. It would be a good foundation for a project (top end rebuild), unfortunately I don't have the storage space nor time for that. Anyway, I wanted something setup better for long cruises. I have a new motor on the way; New GM 350 4-bolt block, e-tec aluminum heads, full roller cam, rpm air gap, 9.8:1, 435hp...and all polished nice and pretty :) A much better motor. And they'll be a TKO600 5-speed behind it!
Stay tuned.
