Im trying to wire up the new radio today. Only 1 harness was left in the car by the previous owner, the black one. Thank god I had an old dash harness in the basement, so I cut the other two harnesses out(white and blue) and spliced them into my car. My only problem is, the black harness that is original to the car only had 3 wires on it....black, grey and a yellow wire. The Black harness in the basement has 4 wires coming out of it...black, grey, yellow, and a yellow with black stripe. Needless to say the radio doesnt work. The harness has letters next to each wire....E is the letter of the wire I am missing if that helps.Do I need this wire for my radio to work?? There is no other cut wire dangling that I can see....IF I do need this wire...where should it go? By the way, this is a 79z.

when i wired my stereo in my 79 i just bypassed the original harness.
i hooked my power wire to a switched 12 volt source, ran speaker wire to my 6x9's. and found a full time power source for my memory wire.

the Yellow is 12 acc (RED on new CD player)
black ground (BLACK on new CD player)
gray dimmer lights(ORANGE on new CD player)
Get CONSTANT 12volts at Fuse box or Lighter (YELLOW wire on new CD player)

Thanks guys, but I was trying to use the factory harness. I would rather have the harness there incase I need to take the radio out for some unknown reason, that way I wont have to cut & splice the wires back together. I was hoping someone could help with the factory harness that I got. One has for wires on the black, the other black harnees I got has only 3.

XxWickeds10xX,
Normally, there is only three wires for the power connector. The fourth wire is for the optional power antenna.
Here is what I have from my 1979 GM Camaro diagram:
Yellow - to light switch for radio backlight, 20 gauge wire
Black/White - To body ground
Grey or Grey/Black - Main power for radio
Optional yellow wire - .8mm wire, equivalent to 18 gauge( slightly thicker than the above yellow wire ) goes to power antenna relay.
Hope this helps
John
