Anyone ever run a bead of silicone at the bottom of the timing cover instead of the rubber seal when changing a camshaft on a sbc? Just did it and it turned out very well:) Just seeing if anyone has done this with good luck sealing....Doug

I always use the rubber seal, and put RTV at the corners where it meets the block/oil pan.

For cam swaps with oil pan still in place I cut/grind the corners of the lip off of the timing cover where the seal goes. That lets the cover and seal slide right in place with the oil pan still up

Been there done that but this is a aluminum cover and it's not so easy to get it on evan after cutting the corners! Doug
