mjoc 11-17-2003, 07:27:00 PM looks very good but you should try to do something with the wiper switch.. LOOKs good though what about from a different angle...
Strange81Z 11-17-2003, 07:34:00 PM Yea that wiper switch just looks like crap no matter what way you try and mount it. I attempted it three different ways, and that turnded out the best.
What I am thinking about doing is robbing one off a new car that goes onto your turn signal and rigging it up. Shouldn't be too hard.
It looks good from all angles though. It is nearly a mirror finish on all areas except by the guage holes. It was very difficult to polish that area since the buffing wheel would keep grabbing the panel and try to toss it acrss the room! http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif But that area is pretty good to.
Anyone have any other idea's on the wiper switch?
LBitler 11-17-2003, 07:52:00 PM Very nice~
Just my opinion on the wiper switch. See if you can find some black rubber trim like what is around the gauge faces and trim out the edge in that. Might make it balance out a little.

70RATZ28 11-17-2003, 08:43:00 PM Very nice. I think the wiper switch looks fine.
3024spd 11-17-2003, 10:54:00 PM Now correct me if im wrong but the area where the wiper and light switches is a seperate peice? Why not try a different style hole such as an oval and use countersink stainless machine screws.Just a suggestion.
Other than that it looks real good.Personally im pondering one from some Stainless.
Strange81Z 11-17-2003, 11:19:00 PM 3024spd,
Yea, I was thinking of doing that too. I actually bought the countersink bit, but never got around to getting the screws. I will probably do that.
That is if I cannot figure out a way to use a different wiper switch all together.
80z28street 11-19-2003, 12:41:00 PM The bezel looks awesome! How did you make the wiring harness? Thats the only thing thats keeping me from doing this project right now. Is there a harness kit or did you make it yourself? Oh and where did you get the LED's for the turn signals?
Strange81Z 11-19-2003, 01:42:00 PM The wiring harness I made myself. Someone had posted how they did it on a 78 Camaro and I just followed that. Then I went to radio shack and got the 12V LED's, the 12 pin connectors (male and female), and the wire. It took me about 2 hours to wire it up. Oh, go to Home Depo and they have these little splicers that you just push the wire into and it will splice it to the other terminals. You just push them in and they are isolated, do no soldering, no twist nuts, just push and go. You can get them in 2,3,5,6 terminals. Made it real easy when tying all of the grounds and 12v wires together.
I will e-mail you my schematic...
If you have any other questions, please let me know....

80z28street 11-19-2003, 10:07:00 PM Thanks for the info Strange I appreciate it. I'll post pictures when I get mine completed.
craggar 11-20-2003, 02:49:00 PM Looks a lot like mine only I did the brushed finish and welded 2 tabs on the back for the wiper switch so there wouldn't be any screws showing.I like the idea of getting one from a newer car that goes on the turn signal but I think I'll leave it since I have my hands full working on my Vega now.Have a look.

79_Z28 11-25-2003, 07:20:00 PM Would you be interested in making one to sell?
Thanks
Aceshigh 11-25-2003, 07:39:00 PM Looks good Strange81Z, I'm in the process of debating Covans gauge cluster premade for $750 or attempting to do it on my own. How much did the gauges and panel cost you altogether ?? Also, I am interested in the wiring schematic as I have a 78 Z also. My email is Stacey_Bell@cable.comcast.com. I just got the car painted, check out my www. Tell me what you guys think. $6,000 invested in the outside of the car.
70RATZ28, you just got the Covan model to install in yours if I'm correct. Are you happy with it? I never got to see any posts after your topic on it.

Yea I might make one for you. I wouldn't be able to gurantee the fit would be perfect, but if you would be willing to trim it if need be. The reason that I say that is I tried it in two different dash's and it fill differently on both. So you may have to hit it will a dremel to get it to fit perfectly.
Let me know if your still interested and we can talk more after Thanksgiving. I am headed out of town tomorrow.
And it is 5 pieces that bolt together, it is not bent or welded. I choose that route becuase I can't weld and I couldn't get the bends to fit right.
ACESHIGH,
I cannot remember the cost of the guages, but I think they were around $350 bucks, and the Aluminum cost me 30-40 bucks. But it does take a lot of work to get it to fit right. I trashed several pieces of Aluminum before i got it right, and that was after making it out of cardboard first.
And i will send you over the wiring schematic.

79_Z28 12-01-2003, 06:44:00 PM Strange81Z,
Yes, i would be very interested, it wouldnt be a problem to hit it will a dremel to get it to fit perfectly. Let me know if you have a price in mind.
snickersbps 12-01-2003, 10:08:00 PM Strange: Do you have any pics of the back? Im interested in the Wiring schematic too, so if you mail it out, send one on my way too, thanks!
Aceshigh: Do you have any pics square from the back? I have the taillight shades like you. Mine are GTS. How do yours fit? Last question: What year is that z28 emblem from(cant see from this far) and how did paint it and what with. Thanks a bunch!!
81Baby 12-05-2003, 08:58:00 AM That is awesome! My son has been wanting to do that to his '81. I too would like to see how you made it. I never thought of making one from multiple pieces. Let me know when you get more information posted.
