I've got an '81 sport coupe with the Dark Blue interior. About eight years ago I purchased the Dark Blue cut pile carpet from National Parts Depot. When I received it I immediately noticed that it seemed to be a much lighter shade with the slightest tint of green in it. This surprised me because all of the other dark blue interior parts that I have purchased were the exact correct color.

I also ordered the matching floor mats, which had the word "Camaro" embroidered into the mat. The thread that they used for the embroidered "Camaro" and the rubber border around the floor mat were the exact dark blue color of the original carpet. I decided to keep the carpet until it wore out.

Now, I am ready to put some new carpet in again and I want to make sure that I get the correct color this time. The problem is that I don't have any of the original fabric to sample, however I do have the sheet that was inside of my seat that contains all of the vehicle information codes. For carpet, it says "Front 0137" and "Rear 195". Does that help?

I have looked up carpet color codes and found that there are three possibilities that Classic Industries offers:

819 Dark Blue - This is the dark blue color that Classic Industries offers as the first choice.

8022 Dark Blue - I think this may be what National Parts Depot sent to me, but I am not sure because I don't have the original paperwork.

840 Navy Blue - This may be the best match, I don't know.

Have any of you purchased any dark blue carpet for your 76-81 Camaro that was the exact color of your original carpetting?

Any information greatly appreciated.

My car is light blue, but my best advice is to call up Moementum. James, I'm sure, knows exactly what you need. The problem, I'm told he's really hard to get ahold of lately. He has been kind of slow lately, but he sells ACC carpet (I'm told this is the best aftermarket compay) and he'll be able to help you decide which carpet is the best match.
To answer your question, I have a Classic catloge on CD, and it looks to me like the navy isn't going to look right, the 819 looks closer to the dark color interiors I've seen. But that's just an opinion. I don't know, just guessing, so don't buy carpet on my thoughts.

As an update I did stop by my local upholstry shop and look at actual samples of all of the carpet colors. Carpet #819 is the exact color of the replacement cut pile that is currently in my Camaro. Unfortunately, it is too light and does not match the standard "Dark Blue" color that is on everything else in my interior.

I also looked at a sample of the #840 Navy and in person it looks much different than in the Classic Catalog...it is not quite as dark in person...and both the upholstry technician and myself agreed that it is the closest color available to the original carpeting.

I guess, to be sure I am going to have to drive the Camaro to the shop and bring the samples in so that I can get a side by side view. I'll post what I find out here.

Rybo, if James can't help you then try 1Aauto. They sell ACC carpets (for Camaros, T/A's etc.) on ebay for around $95 (which is cheaper than if you order them through their website or 800 #). I had a question about the carpet color I needed for my '79 T/A and they sent me out a bunch of color samples (free of charge). I chose what I needed and had the carpet in less than 2 weeks! Great service!!

I got my dark blue carpet from 1aAuto as well and was really happy with the color. It's been in there for a couple years now and has held up real well.
