View Full Version : Gauges Question and favor request
Aceshigh 11-25-2003, 07:44:00 PM Hey all, I'm looking into getting a Covans Billet aluminum with Phantom gauge cluster for my Z28. I'm stuck on stupid on one thing though, I can't seem to locate a photo of how these things look at night with the headlights on. I'm really dying to see what these look like at night. IF ANY of you have these and have a digital camera, can you PLEASE help me out and post a clear closeup snapshot of these with no flash with the headlights on. I just want to see how visible the Phantoms are at night.
I've contacted Autometer 2x and they don't have any available for me. Neither does Covans.

Ace-
Here you go. i just got through putting all the dash pieces in tonight. they are phantom gauges however my tach is a column mount that i put in my bezel. the shift light will go on the steering column. if you want to see what they look like that way to my other pictures of the camaro. anyway these are the plain bulbs i opted not to put the color covers over the bulbs on this car. they are bright. i will eventenually turn the juice down once i get on the road. I hope this is what you wanted. lemanster

Aceshigh 11-25-2003, 09:41:00 PM Hey, one more quick question.
Where did you get that heater control in your 72 ?? Is that stock ???
It looks nice, where did you get it and how much ??
I need a new one that's obviously why I'm asking and I'm buying ALL new interior in about a week or so, $3,000 ......bank bleed.

go to ebay and try and find the gauge lay overs. that is what it is. i was originally going to just put the overlays on my stock gauges...however i have a problem keeping things stock. so i just used the heater one. if you do a search in interiors on overlays you can find other threads about. they run 21.00 bucks and that included shipping. just go to ebaymotors and then to gauges and then search either camaro or overlays. goodluck. lemanster
70RATZ28 11-25-2003, 11:28:00 PM I tried taking some pics of mine for you but my camera sucks so you cant see crap. Sorry. I have the Covans CF bezel w/ phantoms. I really dont like the way the Autometers look at night. They have old school backlighting. They dont have that glowing effect that modern guages have.

70rat- have you tried putting the different bulb covers on the bulbs. i know it sounds hokey but i put the green ones on my lemans they they look pretty good. almost like that glowing effect you are talking about. just a idea. lemanster
70RATZ28 11-26-2003, 11:42:00 AM I was going to try the green ones but autometer didnt give me any bulb covers w/ the speedo and tach. So I just left them off.

T-funk 11-26-2003, 03:56:00 PM i used blue lights in my white faced sunpro tach. looks really good and easier on the eyes. but beware which bulbs you get. some are painted glass and the color burns off pretty quick, there are some stained glass ones from, APC i think, and i dont think those would fade.
70RATZ28 11-26-2003, 07:40:00 PM Thanks Lemanster. I will try a green one tomorrow and see how it looks.
