restoring the inside a bit and want to throw a new carpet in. Have 3 questions.

1)The one from Momentum, is it good? Easy to install. Just looking for general feedback

2)Do I need to pull the stuff up thats under the carpet, or can I just put the new one in.

3)Well..the topic. How hard/easy is it to remove the console? And I guess how is it removed?

oh yeah its a 78 =)

I ordered one from Moementum myself about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I haven't got it yet. Yea, I know what you are thinking, that's a long time. Well the price at Moementum is really good and all the cataloge order company's have the same carpet. (or so I'm told) So I can put up with the wait. It's not like I need the car real quick anyway. I have the old one sitting in the garage now. It's really easy to install. I've done a few. First of all, to answer question 1) I think you'll get the same quality no matter who you'll use. If you need it fast, you probably need to use someone else. If you want it cheap, use Moementum. Question 2) No, you don't have to pull up the padding underneath the carpet unless you want to view the condition of your floorboards. Question 3) The console is easy to remove. Just remove the console glove box first. There are two screws in the bottom of it. A 9/32" nut driver will do this. When you pull it out you'll see two more screws the same size. They are the rear console mount screws. Take them out and you're half way there. There are two more screws in the front that attach the console to the dash. Same size. If you have power windows you'll have to unplug the wiring harness from the switch. It may be a little stubborn, but it will unplug. You're now ready to lift it out. I hope this helps.

I have an Auto, 1980 camaro, and when i tried to remove the center console, i couldn't get it up over the shifter. Now i didn't try for hours, but instead of trial and error, i'd rather just be told how to go about it. Other than that little problem, my interior is almost all removed.

In order to pull the console you need to remove the shifter grip, then it comes out by removing the screws attaching it to the dash and the screws under the console glove box.

how do you get the shifter grip off, i tried today to just un screw it, and it wouldn't budge. is there a secret to this?

You really don't have to remove the shifter. Just take the shift plate and turn sideways as much as you can and it'll fit through the console opening.

Use a screwdriver to pop out the button in the shift knob. Then remove the c clip that holds the knob on and it should slide right off. Then you can remove the shift plate and take out your console.

I did this it is much easier than trying to fool with that stupid c-clip.

yeah it has t-tops, they are the c&c aftermarket hack job, basically a swazall was used to make the holes for them from the looks of the metal

I have a newer carpet from Momemtinumum, an it took 3 or 4 weeks. I had given up when no contact then one day I saw my bank account was lower an had some outrageous charge on it. Turn out they finally billed me to send the carpet. Nice place.
But the carpet is from ACC an if they are the good ones I would hate to see bad. First of all it was a lot thinner carpet than I expected. I remember have carpets that where thick an durable, this was thin with little backing support. I thought they sent me a JCWhitney by mistake. Later I installed not bothering to let it flatten out any, went in great. Sill plates, front & back seats, an console had to come out. I took off my shifter knob, an put parking brake on an shifted into drive to get the handle back. Was able to tuck it under the rear and kick panels. Then there was the fit of the precut holes, well console ones are less than desirable, still have yet to recut them, they missed their mark. Seat holes weren't to bad. Had to make bigger slits on all but one. One was way the hell off. I think it must have been meant for the seatbelt warning wire. So I had to cut one new hole. It was worth it, having a worn out tan carpet in a black interior was a real bad thing. Just would suggest adding some support in front of the drivers left seat mount. Right where the floor man takes a dive. My original was wore real bad, since it has no support other than the strength of the carpet. Or, just don't step there.

i was not all that thrilled with my acc carpet. it didnt fit in the camaro as well as their carpet did for the chevelle i had. i did not seem to have enough material on the edges that tuck under the kick panels, and i didnt think it followed the floor by the accerator pedal the way it should. but it's good enough. just wish i would have put more glue by the pedal and glued it first
