Hi,
My car has a radio in it that looks to be original, and has the little Delco emblem in the face. It is a very nice radio, and works quite well.
But, it is an Am Fm push button cassette.
Is this the original radio, or at least possibly a dealer installed option?
Because, I do know of a couple other 1971 GM cars that have the exact same radio. Such as an Impala, a Nova, and a Chevelle. But it is not listed as an option in the 1971 camaro RPO list.

I doubt it was original, how many cassettes did you have in '71, weren't those 8 tracks?

The knobs in the ebay picture are not correct for a 71. It looks like the AM/FM cassette that came in the 77/78 Trans Am.

Yup, the most common and most inexpensive was the 8 track.
But the cassette was the NEW thing. It was back then as the mini disks are now. It was available, but it was a very expensive.
I spoke to the original owner of my car today. In which special ordered the car, and then had many dealer installed options put on/in it. Two of the dealer installed options were, chambered exhaust, and the Am Fm Cassette radio.
He said that the radio cost him almost $400.
Even though, he said, cassettes were also expensive until the mid 80's.
He said he got it just to say 'hey look at what I got', kind of a thing.

What is the distance of the knobs (center to center). Is it 6 1/4" or smaller? Thanks.

Should be 6 1/4" as per factory. 5 7/8" is the other "later" style width.
