I have a 1970 1/2 rs/ss. I need to put in a rollbar and cage. Problem i have is i think they look ugly and take away from the sleeper look.
Another problem is I am 6'8" and am afraid it will be hard to get in and out of the car with one. Help???? does anyone know of a shop that can custom make one that would not be too noticable from outside the car also not to intrusive into the cab. Next does anybody have any opinion on aftermarket seats for the car

Any good performance shop can custom bend the cage along the doors to make access easier. Also, hinge kits are available that allow the door bar to swing out like the door.

Im not sure how many people have customized the rest of their roll cage. The middle part of the cage must be mounted above the leaf spring mounts, leavin the bar to be clearly visible in the side windows. I dont know of any other way to do it!

Why are you installing a cage?

Since you are in California I would think you shouldn't have any trouble finding a good chassis shop to custom build a cage for you. I have seen the main hoop slanted a little to hide it behind the inner body line of the car.

I have also seen them bent the side bars a little and add another support to make entry a little easier for larger people.

I am 6'5" & I found a local shop (Oklahoma) that is going to build mine. Hopefully I don't have any problems.

I am installing a cage because i have too.. They won't let me drive it at the track anymore. it does 11.26 with slicks and then when i road race it they are also requiring one now. I know i can get a 4 point in without disturbing anything and not being too visible.. it is going from 4 to 6 or 8 or 10 that they become a problem. I also don't have a shop with anybody i would allow work on my car in my area. THe people working at all the speed shops around me don't know their ass from their elbow. They would probably torch my car when welding.. I live in Los Angelos, CA. RIce rocket capitol of the world...

You can get swing out side bars which are legal until you dip into the 9's. As far as hiding the cage by bending the main hoop, my NHRA rule book says that the hoop needs to be within a certain distance of your head (I think 6"). If it is not, it won't be a legal bar.

I don't think he is going to have a problem with keeping the bar within 6" of his head. At 6'8" I think he will have a problem getting that much room between his head and the main hoop.
