Does anyone know of any good shops in (or near) Edmonton to have a transmission rebuilt for performance vehicles? Any shops that should be avoided?

Any shops that should be avoided? 71Formula 04-07-2006, 08:00:18 PM I suppose I should qualify my request. I have decided to go electronic and I am putting a 4L80E transmission into my 71 Firebird. The plan is to buy a used transmission, and have a tranny shop rebuild it, and install a shift kit. Any help finding a good shop would be most appreciated. craggar 04-08-2006, 07:54:02 PM All my work and many of my friends now use Borris at Dot Transmission.149th and about 113 st. Tell him I sent you if you decide to use him. His prices are fair and I haven't heard anyone that I know have any kind of problems. ZS10 04-08-2006, 08:33:57 PM Might want to price a new TCI package. I'm going to pick up a 700r4 SuperStreetfighter package, oil, 10" converter, cables, cooler and lock up switch, for about $1000 cheaper than any trans shop or Summit, could quote. Gotta be on the good side of your parts person and takes a month to get it here. Apparently its good for 600hp. Just over $3000, but its not in the car yet... I looked into a 4l80e, good trans, but very heavy, and waaayyy too expencive, imo. Eric 04-08-2006, 09:02:32 PM A 4L80E is an electronic unit- so be prepared to spend another few hundred $$$'s on an aftermarket controller for it. 71Formula 04-08-2006, 11:24:11 PM Thanks for the recommendation craggar, if you would like me to mention your name you will have to tell me what it is first. I have looked into buying a premade transmission, but the overall cost with shipping is far higher than most prices I have been quoted locally. Eric, thanks for the comment, I have already purchased a computer (TCI $660), the necessary throttle position sensor(TCI $200), an adapter plate (TCI $50). The project really isn’t a budget upgrade, but the temptation of overdrive, with laptop tuning; combined with the strength of the TH400 swayed me this way. The fact that I could use a shrifter with it may have been a big influence too. craggar 04-09-2006, 12:46:29 PM [QUOTE=71Formula]Thanks for the recommendation craggar, if you would like me to mention your name you will have to tell me what it is first.
