I was wondering if any one has got a box with subwoofers in thier trunk? If so is it a custom box or did you buy it from a store. Pictures would be nice. If anyone has a subwoofers in any other places than the trunk, where and how do you go about installing them?
Thanks

i seen in chevyhighperformance magazine or something like that....

they put one 10 inch sub under the rear deck. just like how 6x9's would be mounted, they put a 10 inch free air sub (does not require a box) between the two 6x9s. thats how i plan to do my stereo in my camaro when the time comes.that way i still have trunk room http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just used a truck box and it slides under the deck with the 6x9's. Still not a lot of room in there but a lot more than a car box can give you.

take a read there...

you can buy a pre-made box that will fit... the year of the car will denote how large of a box... what kind of system are you looking to have?

I use a Bazooka bass tube. It doesn't take up much space, and it works great.

heres what you can do.Also what I have done.

All in the rear deck.
4 10' subs in rear deck Haven't done this one yet,but it will work.

2 8' in rear with 2 6X9
2 10" with 2 6X9
2 6X9 with 1 12"
There is even enough room to put in tweeters too.

I haven't tried this setup myself, so I can only make assumptions. If it is working for you, great.

Subs on the rear deck are usually a bad idea. The only ones that will function correctly will be free air subs, and they require a lot of power to make noise. Four on the rear deck would be a nightmare.

Also, tweeters on the back deck are pretty much a waste of time and money. You are in the front. Who are you trying to entertain; you, or the people crammed in the back? Put your best highs up in the front where you can best enjoy them.

I think a slimline or truck box will work best for anybody looking to add some bottom end to their music. And a setup can cost you less that 200 bucks if you shop correctly. I think for a single sub setup, 12" is the best way to go.

I had an orion 10" in the trunk of my 79. Custom built the box to wedge between the parcel tray and the raised lip that runs the front of the trunk. Happen to work out perfectly with the dimentions I needed the box stopped right at the trunk opening so I could still fit the groceries back there. I actually blew the sub and am no longer using the box. When I get my 2nd gen going again I am planning on putting a 'sub tower' if you will behind the passanger seat and putting a bucket seat behind the driver. Just build something cool in fiberglass is all I have for a plan now. I've seen 8"s put in the rear of the door before that looked pretty cool but I dont think it would be all that functional unless they are free air and you've got alot of power to em.

Bumping up an old thread with same question. I was wondering if anyone put two 10's in a mdf box under the rear deck area. Did it fit ok and which way did you face it?

Pics :p

I am using an Infinity Bass Link. Sounds awesome. I have yet to distort the bass in this thing.

First Thing You Have To Ask Yourself Is.....how Loud Do You Want The Sound To Be. The Only Issue With 2nd Gen Camaros Is The Front Speakers. If You Don't Mind Cutting Up Your Door Panels, Then Install A Good Set Of 6 1/2" Two-way Speakers. If You Put A Sub Woofer In, You Don't Necessarily Have To Place It In The Deck. Bass Is An Omni-directional Tone. Meaning It Is Hard For Your Ears To Discern Where It Is Coming From. With That Being Said I'd Install A Single 10" Or 12" Sub, And Also Amplify All Of Your Other Speakers. You Can Use An Amp With Built In Cross-overs, So Only Highs Go To Your Front Speakers, Then Only Bass To The Woofer. When I Ran The Install Shop, I Made A Box To Fit 2-15" Woofers In An 82 Caddy With Hydros. It Was Slick And It Slammed!! Only Problem It Was All Bass. I Prefer Sound Quality Over Insane Bass.

If You're Good With Fiberglass You Could Build An Enclosure And Make It Look Factory. Maybe Behind The Right Rear Tire For Weight Transfer? Just A Thought. Good Luck!!!

I wouldn't do a rear deck sub install, I would come closer to putting the sub in an ported enclosure firing forward and running the ports up to the rear deck into the cabin....seems like you would get a good bass boost transer function off the rear glass. Nothing bigger than a pair of 10's.

Back in 89 I had a pair of MTX Free air 12's mounted on a baffle board behind the seat of my 78 Camaro using the trunk as the enclosure. It sound pretty good inside the car...but you can't beat a good mdf enclosure. It also had a trio of coustic amps and a crossover on a piece of carpeted covered plywood.

Depends on your preference in music I guess.

I had one, and didn't care for it at all. Too weak. I've been thinking of a
10" or 12" rear package tray install for a sub and enclose my 6x9's.
