My 81'' Z 28 has little cracks in the vinyl part in the dash...Does anyone have any ideas to repair so that it looks good when done? I would love to replace dash but I can't find a chocolate brown dash anywhere....help!!!

They have vinyl repair kits at Wal-Mart and if you can mix the colors to match it's a good thing to get. Otherwise I'd just check with every company that sells dashcaps for your color.

I installed one of those caps over mine and it looks just like a new pad!

JC Whitney sells Accuform dash caps for 79-81. Thats the easiest way to fix it. You will have to dye it to match your interior though.

Installed a cap on my daughters '79. Fits and looks good. They come black, so but primer and match paint.

What is all involved in putting one of those caps on? sounds pretty neat. Could I complete this project on a Sunday afternoon? I don't have alot of time left before I put it away for the winter.

Nothing to it. The time is spent painting and allowing the adhesive to dry. I used a vinyl primer, which is supposed ot be more elastic for bonding the paint to the plastic cap. The install took very little time. Just apply glue (comes with cap) over the old pad and place the replacement over the old pad. Get something like a couple of pieces of wood to wedge against the windshield and keep pressure on the cap until the glue is cured. I left ours overnight and it seems to be holding up (tight fit) pretty well.
This was all in my daughters '79. I replaced the whole pad on my '77, that was a bit more of a job.
Good luck !

You can click on the little cam thing and look at my webpage. Look at the interior pics of my 73 chevy truck.
I have one of the dash cover/caps on it.
I aint sure of brand, cause I got it on a trade. It was new but missing the glue when I got it.
It came black. I used 1 spray can of red vinyl dye from advance auto parts to paint it red. Let it dry for about 2 hours, then just put it over the oem dash.
In them pics it's not glued down, but after the pics I used some window silicon to "glue" it down

Took me about 5 mins. to install.
Just be sure to clean the existing dash pad real good prior to installing the cap. (gotta make sure all the Amor-All and similar stuff is gone from the original pad so the glue will stick)
