The orig dash in my 71z is in good shape but there are some fitment problems, particularly around the steering column (between dash carrier and lower steering column cover) and near the ash tray (between lower steering column cover and lower instrument trim panel).

The entire lower dash was cracked when I bought the car and I managed to find some good replacements. I'm wondering if the car was in an accident and something is now bent.

Any advice on how to get a perfect fit? Any good repro parts out there, e.g. D&R, Classic, Year One, etc?

The original is as good as its gonna get. They are never perfect. The repro pieces fit even worse. I just put the OER dash pad From Classic Industries in my 70 and the fit is mediocre at best. There are gaps at both sides of the dash and at the top where it meats the metal part of the dash. I havent even put the lower dash on yet so I dont even know how those pieces will fit but I'm sure it wont be perfect. A good original piece will be better than a repro every time. Are you sure the dash pad was never replaced previously? You may allready have a reprodution hence the imperfections.
