okay it's been awhile since i wired one but will be using one on my electric fuel pump install now let me know if this is right :

85 - 12 volts from switch

86 - ground

87 - fused 12v power from batt.

30 - feed to fuel pump hot wire

now to wire the switch i'll run a fused 12 volt wire to one side of the switch ,one to ground and the other to #85 on the relay

okay now since my battery is in the trunk i can just run the wires to power the relay and the switch off of my disconnect switch ??. this will keep the wires short in length since the fuel pump is going to be mounted on the r/rear frame rail

I have

85 - ground

86 - 12 volts from switch

87 - feed to fuel pump hot wire

30 - fused 12v power from batt.

This is from a fan wiring diagram I have hanging around.

I think it is a great idea to run the wires off the disconnect. Use the switched side.

The wiring for the 85 /86 coil terminals are very low wattage.
22 ga wire is plenty.

Usually the relay is wired
30 and 85 12volts fused from Bat
86 switched ground
87 to the Accessory that needs power.

Wire the main power, 30 or 87 (the other one goes to the pump power wire), off of the master disconnect switch(best to use a fusible link, four sizes smaller than the wire IE:14ga wire on the relay-18ga fusible link to master disconnect switch). The 12v switch wire, 85 or 86 has to go to a circuit that comes on with the key or another switch(, the other one goes to a solid ground). If both wires, 12v constant and 12v switched, are connected to the master disconnect switch then the pump will run whenever the master is on

Relays can be wired in many different ways depending on what you want to do, heres a pic for the basic add ons
