Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction on this one...

Here's the problem with my 78. When I hit the brake pedal, the yellow tail lights come on instead of the red brake lights. Other than that, things are normal. The yellow lights blink with the turn signals, and the proper bulbs light up when you turn the headlights on.

I've pulled the tail light lenses off, and replaced all the bulbs with the correct number bulbs as listed in the Owner's Manual. I've peeled apart the wire looms and electrical tape at the bulbs, and checked the color of the wires against a wiring diagram, and they appear to be connected correctly.

So I figure the problem is under the dash, but I don't really know where to look. If anyone can tywll me what color wires should be coming out of the brake switch and the turn signal switch, and where to look for those, I'd really appreciate it.

Is there any chance that the signal light switch in the steering column in this car has been replaced? It sounds like this car is running a signal light switch from an earlier car that didn't have the yellow rear signals.

I don't think the switch has been replaced, but the main wiring harness has (not by me). I think it'd be tough to accidently swap the turn signal wire with the brake switch wire, but that's how its behaving.

Is there a way I can tell if I have an older turn signal switch by looking at it?
