Whats the different between a SI and a CS alternator and how do I know which one I have?
I have changed the alternator in my 72 a couple of years ago so I don't have the original one anymore.

The big difference between the two types is the SI alternators can be completely rebuilt, but the CS version alternators are disposible and are not recommended for rebuilding. The SI alternators are still the most popular for use on muscle cars. If you need more explaination, check out this website at:
Hope this helps! ;)

A 12SI 94 amp should do you just fine with a properly wired car using relays, good solid grounds and fuseable links. I have quite a big draw on my twin Spal fan set-up and I never have a problem, headlights are nice and bright and do not dim in the least. Just as important as the equipment you use is the method in which you configure it.

Patrick: Thanks for the help, I will give M&H a call next week (have to plan what I am going to say first) I will let you know how it works out.

Hi hyperion, nice to see you to. No I am not loooking for a new alternator, I am just trying to figure out which one I already have.
I am going to change all the wiring in my 72 and there was to different harnesses for the alternator.
What year of Camaro do you have?

I heard the line about the new ones being not rebuildable,so I asked my local rebuilder about it. He said things are soldered together, you snip the leads;solder them back. Its somewhat a pain. But they rebuild them all day long.
