HI, I just bought a 73 camaro. I was thinking of swapping in a crate motor to preserve number matching original engine. Does anyone in Illinois know what this would do to emissions testing? I saw in DMV website you could apply for
antique plates with restricted use or submit a show car affidavit with insurance policy stating restricted use to be exempt from smog test. Just wondering what other people do with thier classic/show cars as far as emissions testing. I want to use headers and flowmasters on new engine.

In Missouri after the car is twenty five years old no emisions is required. If you want historic plates there's a one time fee and your limited to 1000 miles a year apart from car shows and cruises. If you can find plates the same year as your car for MO. you can register them also.

Hey thanks for the reply. I think I will try the show car route if it fails the emission test. I see cars driving up to shows with blowers sticking out of the hood etc. I never gave much thought to the emission check aspect of muscle car ownership until I bought one.
