I'm through fool'n with emissions !:rolleyes: I'm having a hell of a time getting my car to pass emissions ! What should I look for when I'm picking out a set ? My exhaust is all bolted together so they will be removed once the test is over!

Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks
Jay

Just do what other people do, drive over to AJ, get a PO Box and register the car there. (When I left AJ didn't require emissions checks)

Well I have a solution, but it's my mechanic in MESA, on the OTHER side of the world... see my sig for info. AWESOME performance shop, they can anything to pass. I was referred to them by the 1st gen Camaro club... just tell Glenn -owner, "Lanette with the 70 SS" sent you.

Hopefully, I have only two more emissions tests before I can say *It no longer needs emissions* due to the NEW LAW passed... yiPPie! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smilies/holiday/ornament.gif

Go to home depot and purchase a quart of denatured alcohol. use a full tank of gas and add it to it. make sure you have done an oil change and a basic tune up and it should pass. Its the only way i can get my 69 to pass.

Or go to the bar and drink some alcohol yourself and passout. That way you will forget about trying to get the Camaro to pass. Works for me. Took me 17 times to get mine to pass the first year I owned it...er ahhh, it owned ME! Patience and perseverance..... and whole lotta money.:confused:

Hi and welcome back! My 1st visit was in March when I got the car running
again. This time is my first renewal at the normal interval. (What did he say?)
2nd visit to DGI, but not the last, for sure. Good people!:)

cat's is AN idea...it might be a little late for me...as the new emission law will take into effect soon. <cross fingers here!>

Cats would solve the having to go BACK every year for an adjustment at the shop...

How do cats affect AIR FLOW...how much do they HINDER the exhaust system, breathing?

bluepat, yes DGI is awesome! Family member just spend some serious money [at DGI] on their daily driver to get through emission AND also had other mechanical issues.... why is it SOME people put OFF doing ANYTHING to their car, I swear, how do they expect the vehicle to *continue* to run... /soapbox!

I wanted to thank everyone who replied to my post and especially dakdawn for refering me to Glen and DGI . They got my car through after 3 tries ( she can be a moody bi***h LOL !!! ) . So I get her home and because I work umpteen hours a day 6 days a week I decide I check to see if i can renew my registration on line.

After I get all the info in I get this :

$100.00 Penalty Fee
$ 10.00 License tax
$ 8.25 Registration
$ .37 Postage
$ 25.00 Special Plate Fee
$ 1.50 Air Quality Fee
------
$ 145.12

"Air Quality Fee ?" What the :mad: is that !
Why did I have to pay $19.00 everytime I take my car to the car police ? ( including the times with DGI is probably close to 8 times that I paid over the last 3 1/2 years , or the $45.00+ that I spend each time I've changed the oil, gas and air filter , or the $150.00+ that I spent on my mufflers . Do I get any type of credit for all these things I do to keep my car running in good order for the car Nazi's ......... NO !!!!!!!

Okay now I'm off the soap box !! I know if I go into the DMV I can sign a wavier stating the car has been un drivable and drop the 100.00 fee Oh! and the .37 postage but come on !

On a sad note when I picked my car up on Wed after talking with Glen and thanking him , I stated that I would be back in Aug , if not sooner , when it was time to play the emissions game again and found out he had sold DGI that day. He was going to finally work on his own 11 year old project car .
His guys are all staying but there will be a new owner.

He did want me to say thank you to everyone here for the referals and that if any of us ever go to Speed World ,over here on the west side of town, he runs a silver 64' Pontiac called the "Pounc'n Poncho " and to come up and say "Hi" .

Is it even safe to install cats on a car that didnt have them? I have always heard it wasnt because of the heat produced. At any rate, Im glad to hear you got it passed! I hate the feeling of going through emissions and not passing. Too bad Camaro's weren't made in 66!

Nice to see so many posts from Lannette too! :)

Couple of questions

Did a 69 even have cats?
how did your car fail? actual emmisions or the visual check?

Now here is something interesting. The Camaro was/is registered in Yuma becuase of emission crap (all of it has been yanked) I go to register Edgar (same reason) in Yuma and they tell me I can register it but it will have to go thru emissions because my main addy (drivers license) is in Mesa, I will have to drive the cars from Yuma go thru emissions, and drive them back down. They even changed the addy for the Camaro. WTF is this?? I guess it is to crack down on the slimey bastards who get a post office box in AJ HAAA LOL

It failed the actual emissions ! Visual checks are not valed previous to 74' or 75' which ever year the started emission control devices ! The whole emissions thing is B.S. when I take my 98' Z through they don't even start it . They plug in a computer and check to see if my check engine light comes on . Cars like mine were never intended to meet emission requirments. Az needs to get with the program and bump up the required test year.

Good luck everyone !

So that is whjat it took to get it throught. OMG!!!! How many times just you and I have messed around with that car. We are talking YEARS!!!! That is so STUPIT that you had to put cats on it to get it through. This state is so BBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.... No wonder I hate it here so much. Man I wonder what I am going to have to go throgh when I get my 71 on the road. I will make it a damn race car before I go through all of that crap to get it on THESE roads. That is just idiotic.
Well on the up shot, Jay. I am very glad to hear that you finally can drive that thing around. How many years haas it been 7? Let me know when you are going to go cruising.
