Not sure I follow you. Are you looking for the best way from CT to that area in VA? If so, I'd say 95S to 76W (to Carlisle) then get on 81S to southern VA. One of my good friends went to Virginia Tech and that was hands down the fastest way from North/Central NJ... should be the same from CT.

I-81S to I-77S and then Rt58(curvy road) into Martinsville.

I95 south to I78 west in Jersey..Follow I78 west for approx. 2hrs to I81 south in PA...Follow I81 south for approx. 300 miles all the way to I581 south in Roanoke,VA (around the 140 something mile marker)...Follow I581 south approx. 10min to RT.220 south...Follow 220 south(go the speed limit speed trap, same speed trap from that gto police car thread) for about an hour to RT.40 east...Follow RT.40 east for 15-20min and you'll be in Penhook,VA.

These directions are reliable, they came from a truck driver http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

Total travel time 8 - 8 1/2hrs from GW bridge, cross bronx area..Don't know what part of CT your in so its kinda hard to determine exact distances.

Depending what part of CT you are in, you can just take I-84 west to I-81 south and eliminate New Jersey altogether - unless you are stopping by Wayne's for lunch??

I second Pantera's advice, exactly how I'd go. Been to Martinsville to the race track and been the route mentioned (I81 to I581 to route 220 many times)
