I know shops aren't supposed to remove them. There aren't emission inspections in Iowa, and I've never had a cop look under my car. Is it illegal not to have catalytic converters here? In all my days here, I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for not having one, even if their car is jacked up and you can see the exhaust from just standing near the car.

As far as i know Iowa does not require a cat do to the fact their is no emission testing. So you can remove it without no worries. I don't have a cat on my 89 chevy truck and never had a problem. No cats on my 85 monte ss or 79 camaro and no problems, although camaro is not on the road yet.
