Is the oil dipstick tube painted to match the engine? How about the dipstick handle? Looking at my '71 (orange block) and my '80 (blue block). Thanks.

Hey Gary, I do believe the dipstick tube and rod should be the natural color. The original rod should have a plastic tip in the loop. I think all 350's were a green tip.

So, I went down and checked my ORIGINAL 1970 Z-28 Dipstick and found it to be have the GREEN plastic insert in tip of handle........
Please respond with YOUR findings of what YOU have as being ORIGINAL.....
I understand WE have members with ORIGINAL Dip Sticks having NO plastic colored tip....

Ok Chuck, here is what I have.
70' Z28 Flint built engine 07E car NO TIP
70' RS/SS 350 Tonawanda built 05B car NO TIP
70' SS 350 Tonawanda built 05D car GREEN TIP
I know both of my big block cars have replacement dipsticks, so I am not going to post them. The cars mentioned above were all untouched originals when I found them. My 70'Z28 currently has the green tip. Hope this helps. mike
