Does anyone know or have an idea where I could buy a set of rear spiral shocks for my 72 Z-28? Other than e-bay? Is there people who handle these? I have a set of fronts, but need the rear. Jim

D&R classics have them in their newest catalog. Be prepared to pay but they are in the original correct gray.

sorry, I should have done that in the original post. You could also give James a shot at your business by clicking the moementum banner at the top of the page. Let me know if you need additional info re D&R.

Even if you get shocks with the spiral pattern, how do you know you are getting the correct firmness? I was under the impression that the F-41 option had firmer shocks along with the different springs.

Spiral Shocks,

You can go nuts over these. I don't know what shocks D&R has but I would be skeptical if I were you. The only legit Spirals I have seen for sale are by a gentleman named Donald McKinsey who advertises in the Hemmings Motor News.

Part numbers mean nothing on these shocks. The part number on the shock never matched the part number on the box. Heck they never even matched the number in the parts book either. They went by pattern and length pretty well much.

McKinsey had over 5000+ pairs last time I corresponded with him well over 4 years ago.

If you order these from D&R be very specific on what you want. You may not get what you order with no refund available to you and they might tell you that you will have to get an adapter to make them work.

Just my 3 1/2 cents on the issue,

Bob R

Bob R thanks for your reply. Would you have any contact info for Donald McKinsey?

Jim,

Let me see if I can find his address. He does No Business over the phone. If you have a copy of the Hemmings Motor News, look in there. If you cannot find him under Camaro look under Chevelle or Corvette. Meanwhile let me look for his address (Now where is it?)

Bob

I got Donald McKinsey address and he mailed me some information. It was very helpful, something everyone should read. He says(as does Bob R) part number hardly ever match the assembly manual and date coded can be many months, sometimes up to a year from the build date. He stated he worked for GM 40+ years. Very interesting stuff.
