Marv D 11-16-2003, 08:33:00 AM As long as you can't accidently slam the shifter into reverse without moving some sort of lock/release you'll be fine. Gen. Reg 2:14 "...must be equiped with a spring loaded positive reverse lockout device to prevent the shifter from accidently being put into reverse gear. Functional neutral safety switch mandatory...." ------------------ Order your 2GCOG calendar quick (http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/calendar.html) Racer1283 11-20-2003, 03:15:00 PM The B&M Megashifter has an approved reverse lockout, it's the lever you have to pull to get the shifter out of drive and into reverse or park. The lever on the steering shaft is for the neutral safety switch/steering wheel lock, which at one time, B&M had a bracket to utilize, but for some reason discontinued it in the mid-eighties. Now you have to splice into the wiring under the dash to install the neutral safety/backup light switches provided with the shifter. I wore out my original Megashifter, and I'm on my second one in my race car. Too bad B&M doesn't rebuild shifters anymore, I've kinda got attached to it. ------------------ Mike Wozniak '79 Z28 492HP/485ftlb, 383 11.79@114.88,Deep Staged All Throttle, no bottle. Does anyone know where I can get them so I can connect the neutral safety swicth and back up lights? Racer1283 11-21-2003, 02:17:00 PM You might be able to get them through B&M, but you'll have to call their 800 help line number, because they don't have a e-mail help desk. I still have mine off my old shifter, and they still work, if you can't get them through B&M. |
