Back in the 80's I bought a Chrome Bolt in Roll Bar for a 2nd Gen. (I think it was a Hooker model, but I got it 2nd hand). The Main hoop bolted to the "seam" in the interior rocker panel, the rear "bars" bolted to the rear wheel tubs. The bar is 2.5" OD. Since I'm building the car for road racing can (should) I keep the main hoop as the starting point for a cage? I've already ditched the rear arms that go to the wheel wells. The plan was to weld in the main hoop, Weld support arms down to the subframe connectors, and weld in new rear braces to the rear frame in the trunk. Then add the front bars, dash, and overhead supports.
I guess the question, after having read numerous posts on roll cages, is: Can I trust this "look fast" chrome bar as the main hoop? Thanks, Matt.

I doubt that it will get through tech since they can't test the wall thickness with it being chromed.

That bar is purely cosmetic, you cannot use it.

From what I gather those are strictly show only bars. They are not meant to do anything but look pretty. Besides, welding to it would suck.
Good Luck.
