The engine was right at the add line on the oil level.
So I added a quart of 10-30 valvoline.
The engine has the Z/28 pan and curved windage tray.
Dropped from 12.06 @112 to 12.26 @110

Are you sure it wasn't a headwind or something?I didn't think you would lose .2 just from oil.

Well hell hhot, drain 2 quarts out and go get a SFI jacket and get ready for those 11's <sorry, I think the sun and heat is getting to me>
Paracitic oil is nasty. If it's gobbed up and spinning around the crank (robbing power) it's not available for the pump anyways,,, what the heck! run it a 1/2 quart or so low and KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THE OIL PRESSUE. Are you sure the dipstick is right and your not overfilling it just a little? Nevermind, I'm sure you have already checked that.

A recent car magazine article on a crate motor racer revealed the fact that he runs 4 quarts of oil in his 8-quart pan, and if he wants more speed he reduces this to 2-1/2 quarts. At the 1000' mark his gauge is on zero and his engine is at 7000 rpm, but he says he has had no particular engine problems with this situation. The guy runs 9.90's in a Camaro with a 350 crate motor.

Maybe those insanely expensive dry sump systems are really worth it...

It is a small block crate motor with Chevy heads.
