View Full Version : I'm in the 10 sec. club!!!!!!!
wyldeZ28 04-06-2002, 09:18:00 AM Hi all,
Went to the track last night for the first time this season.
I ran:
60' timers weren't working
330 4.432
1/8 6.881
mph 101.05
1000 8.980
1/4 10.750
mph 126.35
That was the only pass I got to make. On my next attempt I did a great burnout, staged the car, foot braked it to 2800 rpm, waited for the third yellow to just show it's face. I nailed the throttle went 20' or so and it grenades the 9" rear end LOL. I will have to take it apart today. I think it broke the pinion and drivers side axel. Oh well thats racing.

hhott71 04-06-2002, 09:56:00 AM Congrats on the 10's !!!
Ouch on your rearend, though.
craggar 04-06-2002, 11:03:00 AM I bet you couldn't get the smile off for some time.Way too go,and at least it was the ford part that broke.
Marv D 04-06-2002, 11:11:00 AM That's kicking some butt Wyld man. That ET/MPH at the 1/8 and your trap RPM looks like there is a few tenths left in it somewhere too. A big congrats to ya.
Let me know what you find in the rear, I have a set of Richmond 4.11 and 4.88 gears, a 33 spline spool, iron pinion support, a new Strange pinion bearing kit, and I think I have 1 good Strange axle that isn't twisted (if it just happened to be the right length). I run a 9" in both the Nova and the Truck so I have a number of things that "wasn't right for the combination" and was used for a short time and landed on the shelf. If you can use any of it I can save you some major bucks on the repairs.
The iron 9" is notorious for breaking the carrier at the rear pinion bearing and taking out the gear set. That's what happened to me last year and I just bit the bullet and had Strange build a complete aluminum, pro gear center section. A big OUCH $'s wise but I'm real happy with it so for.
wyldeZ28 04-06-2002, 12:53:00 PM Hi all,
Like Craggar said the smile is still on my face http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif I raced a 70 Nova on that pass and beat him solid, he ran a 11.39 to my 10.75. I was in the pit for about 10 minutes when he came and found me and asked what size big block I had in it. He liked to have dropped a load in his pants when I told him it was a sbc 350 LOL. He had a bbc 454. I had the hood open when he came over and he looked at it to make sure I wasn't lying.
Marv, I am going out in the garage in a little while to see what all the damage is. I might just take you up on that offer, thanks.
Joe
wyldeZ28 04-06-2002, 02:42:00 PM Hi Marv,
I just got done taking the 9" apart and this is what I found.
The drivers side axel broke about 1/8" out side of the full spool. And of course it took with it the bearing and that spin in cap with all the holes in it. So all the bearing went in to the oil and messed up the ring and pinion gear but neither one was broke. The rear end housing is fine and so is the pumpkin.
So I think all I need is a new set of gears and axels and bearings? And I will need a new full spool too if I go with bigger axels. The axels I have now are 28 spline. And I have 4.86 Richmond gears in it.
Please let me know how to measure the one good axel I have left so we can determine if the ones you have will work, thanks a bunch.
Joe

Maliboost 04-06-2002, 09:20:00 PM Congrats....... & in my book that a 10.750 is considered firmly in the 10's. Great job.
bummer, 'bout the rear end, but yup, thats racing.

PONYEATER 04-07-2002, 10:20:00 AM So what shock settings did you end up with? Are you happy with the QA1's?

Marv D 04-07-2002, 11:55:00 AM Joe I'll measure the axle and get a list of exactly what all I have. I'll respond to your e-mail with a list so we don't clog up the section with details.
PaulyZ 04-07-2002, 12:46:00 PM Congrats
wyldeZ28 04-07-2002, 01:23:00 PM Arron,
Since I only got to make one pass I don't really know how good the shocks can be.
On the first pass I had the front shocks at 1 and the rear shocks at 3. I had a friend there that video the run and the car was unloading bad. The front end came way up then nosed over then back up again. So I deceided to take the rear shocks to a 2 and try the fronts at a 2. And on my next attempt I broke the rear end so I will have to wait untill I can go back to figure out how to dial in those shocks.

PONYEATER 04-07-2002, 11:06:00 PM Joe if you know someone who can edit the video and put it online I would really like to see it. how far out was it unloading?
did the front drop to quickly and cuase it to unload or was it the result of it unloading. Sorry for all the questions.

a73camaro 04-08-2002, 12:27:00 AM I hate to add more to your plate, but if a rear end goes, it can take with it the one-way roller for 1st gear in the tranny.
