what is the max tire size that will fit under the rear of my camaro. it is a 1980 if it makes a difference. i need a 28 inch tall-10 inch wide slick under there. i have the stock rear end/suspension but i will be putting in ladder bar/coil overs before the season starts. also what rim size/offset works best. i want the tires to tuck under and not stick out or hit the quarter panel. any help would be appreciated. what kinds of 60' times are you guys getting and with what tires/suspension setups? thanks.

10" is easy. 12" gets a little tough.

I used a 8 inch rim with a 4" back spacing. For tires I have Hoosier Quick Time Pro's 28X11.5 I think a 10 inch rim with a 5 inch backspace would work too and give you a flatter footprint.
This is a 71-Z with the stock rearend.

I have 29x10 Hoosier Slicks and 15x10 Autodrag rims, with 4 inch backspacing, under mine and I had a little rub problem on the inside wheelwell seam, where the well flares out for the rear seatbelts. The wear was so slight that I didn't notice until I re-did my rearend this winter. I'm going to down a notch on my shackles (yes, my race car has geeky Mrs. Gasket shackles!), and hopefully that will take care of it.

I have found that with our body style any wheel with a backspacing about 1/2 the wheel size is about right. I have 8" w/4" backspacing & it is just about right. A buddy has 10" wheels with 5" BS & it all sits under. I think though if I were buying 10" wheels I would go with 5.25" BS for the optimum fittment.

Hey guys I'm going with a set of Weld Autolites, 15x10 with 5 1/2" BS. I've measured the inside wheel well and it looks like its gonna fit !!

post up your results. I didn't think that a 5.5 back spacing would work. I have a set of 15X8 draglites with a 5.5 backspacing that I used on my 76 Nova but I didn't think they would work on the Camaro. Right now I have a set of factory rally wheels 15X7 with a 4.5 backspacing and my hoosier 27.5X8 tires rub on the traction bars where the J-bolts go through. I had to cut this mounting area down to keep it from cutting my tires. If those 15 X 10's will fit with a 28 X 10.5 tire then I will go ahead and switch to the Cal-Tracks and get the 15 X 10 wheels for my car also.

Jon,
I run a MT ET street 30x12.50 X 15. They are on a Weld 15X10 draglite with 4.5" B.S. I have a Moser,M/W 9" that is the same width as a 69 Camaro. I have the factory wheel wells and the springs have not been relocated. Its tight, but it fits. I am using the calvert mono spring that is 200#'s per inch and the stock ride height. It looks 80's and will soon be out of there..The tires fit inside the wheelwells. The best 60' is a 1.42 on the transbrake @6800 rpm.

Hope that helps...
