Recently bought a Vega rolling car. It was setup as a Super/Street car with small block and a powerglide. I think this is what I want to put back in it. I will use the car as a bracket car.
Question is; do I want to buy a powerglide all setup (900.00 and up) or put one together myself? I can purchase a working powerglide from a 67 Camaro for 75.00. Then I would need the rebuild kit and trans brake. I would also like to set it up to shift eletricly with the MSD rpm switch.

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with trans work and just how much power you are going to stuff through it. You can spend major bucks ($2k-$3k+) on a true race glide and IMO you really do get what you pay for. A dedenber case, internals and pro brake is about as bulletproof as it gets,, but probably overkill if you are looking to go back to the 10.90 S/ST index. I built auto trans's for a living way back in the 70's and still do build my own EXCEPT for the track. If the Nova trans needs anything I drop it and run it up to Hughes. They will freshen it for $150 + parts, and that's only been done once in 3 seasons. Of course it helps that Hughes is only 45minutes from my front door!!

Thanks Marv. I have never done any autotrans work at all but my buget is kind of limited so I was thinking I might try. I am only going to put 500? hp though it(383 small block with dart heads and roller valve train). TCI and ATI have powerglides for under a grand. Kinda leaning that way now.
