looking at one now, 1977 painted red now but was brown, all other options are correct, 4sp car, build sheet, invoice, second owner.
paint faded, interior needs tlc but car is all there, no rust.
Any input appreciated

Haha, I also ordered one in 77 and wish I had kept it. I ran into a dead end on my DMV trace in '85.

here is one that sold at auction last year, this is a low end car
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=SC0511-106163
here is a high end one
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=FL0112-120263
and here is collector car market value guide for 1977... i don't know why they don't list the z28, i am guessing it is under the lt pricing... this was the first time i seen them not list a z28, so i can't say for sure this is accurate
hope this helps you and good luck.

it looks to be accurate under the lt by what copo dug up for you, the only difference is collector car lists their cars on a 1 to 5 scale

What's the asking price on it?

RSRon
06-07-2012, 07:57:22 AM
$8k
its complete, just needs restore to bring it back, was undercoated and Ziebart, still has all the plugs and coating on. Only missing jack pieces and emission pieces from engine, everything else is there, $6k to restore my estimate. I have a first choice gen 67 RS but these second gen seem to have a ceiling on how they can go. Just don't want to get too upside down on the project
more input from anyone

Once owned a brown 77Z with the GM blue engine and Z28 decal on the aircleaner when it was about 2 years old, 4spd M21 3:73. Loved the car. Easy to maintain, handled wonderful . Beautiful car. Would be nice to see this one back in met. brown . Several years ago Looked at a brown 77Z28 with less than 5K on it !! mega bucks.

It just so happens I'm selling MY '77 Z on here and I'm always looking around on Ebay etc. to see what they go for. It's pretty sad actually. Someone up around San Francisco had an absolutely mint, super low-mileage original black 4-speed car (no A/C) for around $10K. To me, that's mind-boggling!! Geez, what was the original sticker price for them back in '77!?! Maybe it has something to do with the fact they still need to be smogged (here in CA at least)

On the other hand, you could say that '77 Z's are the biggest bang for the buck out there. BTW, I keep hearing that 77's run the M21 4-speed. Aren't they all Super T-10's??

Yes T10 Borg Warner
No air car would have sold for $5500 approx

M21 was the RPO code for the BW 4-spd. Mine listed at $7,555.45 and with my GM discount I paid $6,556.00 Canadian.

To me $8000 sounds a little high. Especially if it needs paint, interior work and is missing stuff under the hood. It's an asking price though. Good luck with whatever thou decide to do.

More pictures of the car if you have them would help, can't see too much from just the rear shot.

Look familiar? This is my '77.

Wow... Looks mine, that I bought new... and still have... Someone with a fair offer could drive it away...just can't give it away... I have way too many cars... but... it still has a good home with me, untill someone else shows they want to love it. :bowtie:

I think you got a fair deal. I would do minimal work to make it a safe driver. If you restore it, you'll have to wait a while for the value to catch up. l see nice, smog legal cars here in the SF Bay Area going for 8-12k but most are less, and it poor condition. 1977 would be the year I'd look for (late 2nd gens).
