View Full Version : Post up your audio install pics
Caveman Tiny 03-04-2012, 06:02:54 AM Let's see how and where you installed your audio components. I'm looking for functional and aesthetic layout ideas. I have read a lot of the threads on here but have not seen a whole lot of finished product pics. I have everything I need I jut ran out of creativity.
clay's70 03-04-2012, 08:34:19 AM Installed the stereo/cd player. Every connection soldered!!
Someone in the past had cut up where the radio goes. So, i
thought it was ok to cut some more to make this fit.

I had already mounted two speakers in the dash along time ago.
http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss242/Clays70Camaro/Camaro%20Tear%20Down/100_2624.jpg
I made these boxes to put some mid-range speakers under
the front seats.

When I cut the holes in my package tray I
had a meassy looking edge that you would
see thru the speaker grill. So I finished it off
with wire loom.

It sounds great Jane has never had tunes playing
in her since I bought her--1989!!
Batman 03-04-2012, 06:40:45 PM Instead of using loom, consider installing the speakers from the top of the package tray. The holes should be large enough, the grille should still cover the speaker and go down to the package tray, and it'll look better.
Caveman Tiny 03-05-2012, 02:34:57 PM That's nice and clean. How do they sound under the seat?
Here is where I am so far:
My mids and highs are Alpine components 6 1/2's mounted in fiberglass kick panels. My amp is a Rockford Fosgate Prime R300-4 50W x 4, my sub is a Rockford Fosgate 10" single voice coil in a sealed box and I have a capacitor in the trunk. Here is a pic of the kick panels:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r148/diesel128/1980%20Z28/Interior/aaa36256.jpg
I'm really happy with the sound and how the kick panels turned out. I just need to figure out a good layout for the stuff in the trunk. Batman?
1971CamaroGuy 03-05-2012, 02:56:35 PM I'm loving those kickpanels, they turned out nice :bowtie:
clay's70 03-05-2012, 03:21:48 PM consider installing the speakers from the top of the package tray.
They would not fit that way :( I tried

The fabricator did a good job.;)
CDesperado 03-05-2012, 05:48:15 PM Do you ever have issues with someone's feet kicking/rubbing the speaker covers?
I am considering using that area for speakers as well, and I know others have done it... but when I look at that area in my other cars, there are always marks and bumps on it.

I just installed them in the last week so I haven't had ample time to test that. 1976CamaroGuy made them and he suggests wrapping them with vinyl. I painted mine with SEM interior dye. I've bumped them working around inside the car and so far so good. If it becomes a problem I will pull them out and put vinyl on them.
CDesperado 03-05-2012, 07:23:03 PM I think I may try it... I really like the way it looks.
Twisted_Metal 03-05-2012, 08:29:46 PM I kept things real simple.... There's not a lot to look at.
I didn't modify any of the panels and only drilled one hole in the car for the entire installation.
Head unit... Old shaft style digital display Pioneer (30Wx4).
The little black box beneath the radio is the bass control unit.
http://i39.tinypic.com/4u6i9y.jpg
Front speaker mod... Pretty much invisible. No holes drilled, factory mounting brakect.

Super tweeters...
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7475/supertweetersmall2al8.jpg
There's Alpine 6x9s in the rear deck with black, wire mesh grills.
I don't have a pic handy... They aren't obvious through the tinted rear window.
Infinity BassLink II in the trunk.
Here's where it kinda looks like crap. :o
http://img343.imageshack.us/img343/413/basslinkiiuq9.jpg
The spare has since been removed but the wires are still just laying there.
The sub amp (250 watt) and auxillary amp (4 x 50 watt) do a pretty decent job powering the whole system.
It's a 10" sub with a base reflex cone on the bottom.
And it's all wired like this.
http://i39.tinypic.com/33z9v1j.jpg
The auxillary amp is inside the sub box.
The crossovers for the front four speakers are hidden under the console and the bass blockers for the super tweeters are hidden in the dash.
mgoad1971 03-05-2012, 09:02:20 PM Why don't they make kick panels with speaker holes???
Caveman Tiny 03-05-2012, 10:12:56 PM Cool diagram Twisted. I know there are a lot of opinions out there about having a spare/not having a spare. I want to keep a spare so I need the trunk to be functional. I like your setup.
Twisted_Metal 03-06-2012, 12:33:57 AM Thanks!
That was a 14x7" factory ralley wheel.... It was within 1/4" of the speaker magnet.
You have to measure carefully to find speakers which will allow you to fit a full-size spare.
A compact spare would make it a lot easier to keep a spare back there.

Yep lol, but installation is 99% of the finish product :bowtie: . The black turned out good.
If you end up scuffing or anything or want more durability you could spray it with a sem texture paint and go back over it with landau black
This is what the car audio guys use when they make tweeter pods or bezel and need a texture on them, it's not exactly OEM, but it looks good.
Spray it on lightly, let it dry and knock off the high spots, then coat with sem color coat

slmmr75 03-06-2012, 09:43:24 AM I hope these pictures still work. I'm at work and can't view photobucket. Copying this from a previous post I made about my trunk transformation.
It's been a long time since I have posted here and I'm finally getting my car back ready for the road. I decided to do something with the trunk, instead of just stuffing a normal sub box that doesn't fit correctly. Here are a few pictures of it's transformation.
The system isn't anything big. In the pictures, you will see 2 MB quartz crossovers, FI Audio SSD10 subwoofer, Custom Autosound CD Changer and Rockford 400.4 4 channel. I will be getting another amp shortly to help balance the load and deliver more power to the sub. The rest of the system consist of 5.5" Component speaks mounted under the dash in the stock location with the tweeters mounted where the A/C vents once were. and a set of pioneer deck mount speakers (worst part of my system) on the rear deck.
I have tested the setup with rock, rap, country, reggaeton and many other genres. They all sounded amazing and there are no rattles. The only downside to my entire setup is with my CD Changer. When I have it selected as the source, the left side of my system loses nearly all of the output. I'm still working to see what caused this.

I kinda wish I had tried that to begin with. I will definitely go that route if my paint doesn't hold up.

You da man......never knew about that stuff.
slmmr75 03-07-2012, 11:12:36 AM I really like how that sub fits in there. What's the height/width/depth on it?
I'm really not sure of the exact sub specs off the top of my head. I think the outside diameter is around 11" and it's about 6" in depth. I would have to take a tape measure to the box to get it's dimensions as this install was done a few years ago.
Sadly, I have to take the amp out to test it due to the speakers not firing anymore. I am kind of suspecting that it is the head unit that went bad, as I have already had an issue with this model before. I am actually contemplating picking up the Retrosound USA deck that mgoad1971 posted in the Modern Deck thread. I would lose the CD changer, but the SD, Aux and USB ports would more than make up for that.
Caveman Tiny 03-08-2012, 12:23:29 AM You da man......never knew about that stuff.
Let's see your set up Aces. I saw what you did in your 442. Did you ever finish your install in your Camaro?
Aceshigh 03-08-2012, 01:29:16 AM Nope.....lol
442 , that was just phase I , 6x9's and 6.5's. Now I'm adding a sub box to the package tray.
I'm redoing the whole car just like i'm doing the Camaro's system all over.
442 will be getting done first though because I have to make a custom console that I'm putting
my 6.5" speakers into. This WAS my new package tray, but I really can't stand the protruding grills.
So I'm taking it back out and redoing it as flush as possible......
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/Aceshigh22/Camaro/2011z28packagetray2.jpg
This is the custom sub box I made that hangs from the package tray that is also a double amplifier tray.

Blown Camaro 05-06-2012, 07:06:20 AM ^^^ Wow. I have never seen anyone do this before. So you run them mono like subs? If so, then why have mids and tweets?

No sir they are NOT ran like subs,as long as u use a pretty good equalizer u can get pretty nice bass, mids and tweeter out of 6 6x9s. I did this to both my cars in highschool back in the days and it sounds awesome u just need a big enough amp. I like it loud lol
73Camaro383 05-06-2012, 10:29:12 AM 6X9's rockfords rear deck, 12" rockford sub in trunk and kicker speakers in the stock under dash location. Pioneer head unit.

What carpet material did you utilize for your trunk, source, and what adhesive ??
I really like that and I think I'm going to do that to mine also.
The Herculiner isn't making me very happy.
