View Full Version : 74 to 77 impact strip end cap picture needed
ronzz572 02-02-2012, 11:48:46 AM Looking for some front and rear bumper impact strip end cap pictures. I realize Plater Tom is working on a reproduction of it with talk of it in another thread. I just wanted to see what a original should look like on and off the car if possible.
Sean 74Z 02-07-2012, 12:36:23 AM not exactly sure what you are talking about. If you could give more info I might be able to help
Jonesy 02-07-2012, 10:05:15 AM Mine are still on my car. They are brittle and my car was garaged all its life. I will try to get pics. There is no way I am going to try to take them off. I already cracked one trying
They are plastic pieces that tapped into the ends of the bumper rubber on all 4 ends for a finished look.
ronzz572 02-07-2012, 10:53:43 AM Sean 74 they are a cap at the end of the bumper strips. It covers the hole at the end. Very very rare to have them on any big bumper camaro yet. They always dry rotted and fell off the car early in life. Jonesy please a picture on the car will do thanks Ron.

ronzz572 02-09-2012, 05:02:10 PM Thanks George. I did a search and did not find that thread on the end caps.;)
david.rosol 02-09-2012, 07:31:37 PM What year did they go from having the plastic caps to not having them at the ends of the rubber strips? I'm just curious.
Plater Tom 02-10-2012, 09:40:48 PM Late 1976.
Jonesy 02-17-2012, 04:30:41 PM Damn these things are so brittle. I tried to pop one out and destroyed it. Just crumbled. They are definately plastic. I dont know if a complete one could be found to make some up. I wished now that I would have just left them alone.
the ones on the front are more protected so they seemed to be in the best shape. The ones in the back were beat. This car was never really outside alot in its life.

I got one off Platter T couple years back. I have say it was the most exact repro part I've ever bought for any car. Fit & Finish were 100% .
We only could wish more parts could turn out as good as his.
I might buy a spare . ;)
ronzz572 03-01-2012, 06:29:19 PM {Tom} Platter T and {Dave} silver75 are looking for a good original either to make more or finish what they started to make these end caps. If anyone has a loose end cap they can give up they will put it to good use to make these end caps.
COPO 03-01-2012, 07:40:33 PM I'm sure this can be filled with rubber Goop http://www.biosafe-inc.com/Automotive.htm

Ron have you contacted them already about making some? I would probably want a set if they do.
CamaroNmotion 03-02-2012, 04:20:46 PM I too would be interested in a complete set. Thanks.
Silver75 03-03-2012, 03:43:50 PM We should have 6 complete sets for sale in the very near future.
Dave
ronzz572 03-03-2012, 06:42:49 PM Dave putting my order in for a set when ready. Whats the going price for the set now?
Ricks72Z28 03-03-2012, 06:47:18 PM Ill take a set also.
Jonesy 03-04-2012, 04:06:34 PM I would also buy a set of these.
Sean 74Z 03-04-2012, 11:12:00 PM I would also like to purchase a set of those please. Sean
ProspectorTim 03-16-2012, 09:19:41 PM I just looked at my rear bumper today and sure enough, I need a set too.
Let me know price/availability when they are done. No rush.
Plater Tom 04-19-2012, 09:33:49 PM Some progress is being made on this project.
CamaroNmotion 04-20-2012, 05:34:27 PM Some progress is being made on this project.
Good news! Keep us up to date on progress.
74z28TypeLT 04-22-2012, 05:46:58 PM I'd go in for a set, too. The more we buy, the lower the price can be.
Plater Tom 04-23-2012, 08:53:47 PM My manufacturer has not indicated that to me.
74z28TypeLT 04-24-2012, 08:27:00 PM Maybe I'm wrong, but my guess would be that the manufacturer should be able to provide you with a discount if you purchase 1,000 sets than if you purchased only 10 sets, since amortization costs of the tooling would be quicker. Either way, I'm sure you'll have many buyers.
garyandcindy 04-26-2012, 01:25:37 PM I just took some 1/4" plexiglass and made my own.Painted them satin black and they look really good.Glued them on with black weathertstrip adhesive.
74z28TypeLT 04-28-2012, 08:23:58 PM That's exactly what I did, too. They look fine for now, but some repros of originals would look even better.
Plater Tom 03-18-2013, 10:05:45 PM After a year of waiting, my manufacturer told me on Saturday that........he will be starting on them next week. :)
olstyle 03-18-2013, 10:31:46 PM Awesome :bowtie:
Any idea on pricing? Getting tired of looking at the open ends on mine.
Sean 74Z 03-19-2013, 11:06:59 AM I am also still interested in a set
Silver75 05-23-2013, 09:55:39 PM We are almost completed with the end caps. We need to put the back cuts on these and they will be completed.
