YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-06-1999, 02:29:00 PM I own a 1970 SS/RS CAMARO. And now that they are 30 years old they've finally come out with Die-Cast stuff to grace our shelves. Anyway i E-mailed Playing Mantis the makers of Johnny Lightening the other day trying to encourage them into expanding they're profit margin. I suggested that since they've come out with the Z28, that they might also consider using this same mold to kick out some SS's, RS's, and LT in 2003. More cars same mold, sounds like money to me. I was hoping maybe i could encourage all of you to E-Mail them at www.playingmantis.com If we show them we're interested they'll probably do each year as it hits 30. Also suggest Rs and straight bumper variations for even more options to buy.
YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-10-1999, 05:17:00 PM Is anybody reading this??????????????????????Please Help!!!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!Help!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah YoMamasSS, I think I'll stay with Ertl too. Nothing against you, just like their product.

dinograz 12-10-1999, 09:37:00 PM I was checking out the Ertl website and they indicate that they are in the works of coming up with some new 2nd Gen Camaroi products. It indicated a 1:25 scale Baldwin Motion and a few different designs of 1:64 70 Camaros.
I can't wait to se these since I know Ertl's quality. I have gotten a few Johnny Lightniong cars and have been very unimpressed with their quality....

YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-11-1999, 12:05:00 AM I just received a 1968 YENKO 427 SS from them for joining there die-cast club. It came with a special pen and was in a really cool display box. And i agree some of the older Johnny Lightening were kind of cheap looking but the YENKO, 67 ss, and 70 Z28 were all highly detailed cars. I have the 70 ERTYL 1/18th scale BALDWIN MOTION 454 and green Z28. They make a superior product and hope they too will make variations. Hell i would if i was them, so many differant names same basic car $$$$$$$$$$$$. Anyway i do appreciate any help you may give me on this. Oh and i may have made out like a bandit on one deal from J.L. I ordered a limited addition 67 Z28 but it was packaged wrong. They even sent me a letter stating this. They also said they could'nt correct problem and encouraged me to cancel order. Because they new i would only settle for what i ordered, and they even said that because of this mistake that it would be a collectors item. But said if i did'nt reply within 15 days they would send it anyway. I never replied, Kept letter, and received 67 red SS/RS Camaro in 67 Z28 package. I wish i new if its value or potential. I'm keeping it for my boy though. They've even got out some 70-73 Camaro's in a pull back spring powered toy car. I have'nt got one yet but i will though. Thanks for your help on this.
dinograz 12-11-1999, 12:59:00 PM I was referring to some of J.L. new products as being made poorly. I got a few of the 70 Z28 1:64 cars and the interior is screwed up on one and a couple others have paint missing on the outer reart wheel openings....
On the mis-packaged car, I read somewhere that this happens quite often but since it's a factory mistake, it will always be referred to as rare.
The pullback cars you refer to are the thunderjet series from J.L. The bodies can be removed and then put on older slot cars such as the old AFX cars and raced around the slot car tracks. Currently, the 72 Camaro version comes in black, lime green, and a chrome red. There was also a silver chrome version but J.L. only made 500 of those and they sold out real quick. They can be found on eBay though.
For the regular production Thunderjets, you can try this place.

YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-11-1999, 01:29:00 PM HELL would'nt you know, i wonder why they did it that way? BIG business just does'nt make sense sometimes. What was the exact description to look up on E-bay i always have a hard time on they're search? Thanks loads for information let me know if you see anything new out there in the way of 70-73. I almost bought a promo car awhile back at a swapmeet they wanted $150.00 for it. It was a 70-72 cortez silver/blk top SS/RS car. But wouldnt you know i was short on funding that day. I quess i did'nt read all of your of your reply does address at bottom still sell the regular 72 Camaro Thunder Jet's or was the 500 that sold out just the certain colored ones? Thanks!
dinograz 12-11-1999, 07:14:00 PM The promo you referred to sounds like one for 1970. i have 1 for each year (70-73). 1970-silver w/ black top, 1971-green, 1972-dark metallic brown, 1973-bucaneer red.
The difference between the Thunderjet and Thunderjet 500 cars is what type of slot car bodies they will fit on. I believe the 1972 Camaro car is a Thunderjet 500 car. Northcoast Performance sells the black, lime green, and chrome red cars.
The silver cars can be found on eBay. Try searching using "silver camaro" or "chrome camaro".
The promos can be found on eBay too. They're not very common but do come up occasionally. Usually sell @ $100 on eBay. Good luck....

YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-12-1999, 02:37:00 AM Dinograz you got some cool stuff, especially that red car of yours! I hope maybe i can find some of those bump and go toy cars are they hard to find? I have the 73 promo i need to collect the rest. I guess the only reason i'm making a big deal about J.L. is because that was the only cars that i was aware of in a 70-73. previously the only other little car i found was a real cheap ass 70 RS in a package with a bunch of assoted other cars. I bought several packages of the little green Camaros, and stripped them and repainted them white w/blk stripes. I also have one of those Aurora Camaros baby blue/purple #3. Are the matchbox cars available still, i've never seen any? Thanks.
dinograz 12-12-1999, 12:20:00 PM The Bump 'N Go cars are out there but since they were made over 25 years ago, they're not in abundance and even more difficult to find in decent shape.
The blue 1970 Camaro Matchbox is also difficult to find. They were issued in 1999 and were not part of their regular run production but were in their Premiere Nostalgic Collection. I've seen these on eBay also....
I plan on adding some new pictures soon of some of my Camaro automobilia and hopefully more of my car too. Hopefully Santa will bring that scanner.......

rscamaro73 12-12-1999, 05:03:00 PM Since Yo mentioned the Aurora cars, I just remembered that I ahd one of those, it was white w/ silver stripes, and it had a matching sister that was a vette, same color scheme. For some reason, I found a little blower motor that I glued to the camaro. MAN, was that schweet...guess it forced me to get my 73 (Aurora was a r/s). Now that my 4 yo son has a slot track, maybe when i go back to my mom's this x-mas, i can snake my track & antique cars back here. Antique cars mean my dad used to play with them when he was younger...the ones that you had toscrew the bodies back into the chassis & had 3 gears on the top. Me & my brother have a few of them floatin around still. Somewhere we have a shitload of replacement parts for them too.

YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-12-1999, 06:36:00 PM Something else i have is a race car set from 67 with a yellow Corvette and a Camaro. The box like self destructed a day after i got it so had to toss it. The cars are powered buy a single D-battery. Also missing the Camaro's body but track is in good shape. I guess its also the same set Chevrolet offered as a promo. I ran into a guy at a swapmeet that had one, and they were exactly alike. He wanted to buy mine and i wanted his. He brought it just for people to look at because it was'nt for sale. Does anybody have the yellow 67 body out there thats interested in selling it?

Zmotion 12-14-1999, 01:19:00 AM I gotta admit,I was surprised to see Ertl finally make 2nd gen Camaros. It was a cool move! They gave us a full bumper Motion AND an RSZ28!The Motion really rocks! As for the Z,I had to look at 5 or 6 carefully before finding one without chrome chips, dents or sloppy assembly. The one I returned had a BIG dent in the pass "C" piller! What happened to quality control? Oh well, still glad the're even mak'n them.Don't want to deter anyone from buy'n, just be sure to look 'em over.

Jeep43 12-14-1999, 02:05:00 PM My neighbors got a couple of old tyco slot car sets.
One is a police chase with police car and 80 Z28 and the other is called the Z-28 challenge which has 2 80 or so Z-28's
Are they worth anything?
I think I'm going to try to buy 'em from him I think they're neat. I like any 2nd gen car models. They are just sitting in the basement.
YoMamaSS/RS1970 12-14-1999, 08:43:00 PM Buy it now or regret it later it's your choice.
