Is it possible to tell if a 1980 Z28 is a factory 4 speed by the vin or cowl tag?
If not how can I find out?
Thanks

Thanks Tim mrnastyz28 06-04-2005, 09:49:00 AM There is nothing in the vin or cowl tag to tell this. The best way would probably be to get to the 4 speed hump and see if it has been factory mounted and if the whole underneath of it for the shifter has been hacked out or if it looks factory. I converted my 78Z to a 4 speed and bought the 4 speed hump and instead of spot welding it back in, I used screws where the spot welds had been drilled out to remount it. Maybe you could jack the car up enough to look up to this spot and see what it looks like. greg tjp64olds 06-04-2005, 10:33:00 AM I just purchased the car and have not picked it up yet. When I was looking at it I lifted the front of the shifter boot and the top of the hole was nice like it was punched out during stamping. The bottom although I could not see felt jagged like somone cut it out. I know the shifter is not origanal could someone have cut the hole bigger to accomadate an after markret shifter?
