Just trying to figure out how to tell what a car was by just the VIN......its a 70 from Norwood...no trim tag, no P-O-P or paperwork, and no sticker on trunk lid.

Any ideas ?? Its a 4 spd, no floor mounted pedal. 10 bolt rear (dunno how original it is).

There isn't much information contained in a 1970 VIN that you can learn about the options in the car. Look here to decode:

So I guess that the only way to tell if it wa a BBC car is the engine mounts then maybe ?? There was nothing else to really tell. There were some 'SS' emblems on the car...but anyone can put them on....

As you probably all ready saw on the link Gary posted, all '70 BBC cars had 12 bolt rears & I believe a rear swaybar (F41) as std. equip. Didn't the BBC cars have a different tach as well?

My 70 plain Jane coupe came with a 12 bolt rear, so I would suspect that you could order it with one if you wanted to.

Interesting that someone would order that type of an option and NOT get the SS package...

Be careful just depending on the engine frame mounts. The Z-28 used the same engine frame mounts as the solid lifter big block cars in 1970. They also had the heavy duty (F-410 suspension. The tach was different.
