Code is hard to read but it is a 1 leg 3.42 non posi 8.5" 10 bolt housing with
PE G09 1 . What does the G09 1 mean? July 9th 1981?? I was told it was from a 78 or 79 Camaro..
Thanks!

My Haynes manual quotes a PE as a '78 non-posi 3.42. Hope that helps.

Hi there!! Apparently PE code is good for 1978 up to 1981 on Mad Michael's site.. It is the G09 1 that could be July 9th 1981 that I want to be sure of..

This page has the decoding information. The year of manufacture isn't coded into the stamped number.
G 09 should be July 9 like you suspected.
1 is first shift
There is a casting date code on the pumpkin, and it should have the year coded into it. The page above shows you.

Thanks Rene and Gary S.. Have another rear end to figure out. This is a 3:73 posi 8.5 ten bolt with code CG G 257 2 N . Does the 2nd G stand for July and the 25th of 1977 then 2nd shift N=??
Thanks!
