Newbie here and I need some help decoding my VIN number. 1P87LAN541751. what is the second digit? This is a 1980 Z28.

1 = Chevrolet
P= Camro Sport Coupe
87 = 2-door Coupe
L= 350 CID, V-8, 4 BC
A = 1980
N= Norwood
541751 = 41750 one off line (number started at 500001/up)

Awesom thanks. Does this mean that it is a true Z28 or not?

Yes this would make it true z28 since the LM1 350 was only available in the Z28. Doesn't it have all the other markings? Front of engine behind the alternator where the heads mate to the block you will find a little pad, If it is original you can find the vin stamped there along with a 3 digit suffix code.

Of course this is only what my books tell me so and they have been wrong :P but for the most part if you have all the other options and that engine it should be a true Z28
