View Full Version : Stereo Question
Lunaticz28 06-09-2011, 06:52:41 PM Alright, So I just got my stereo hooked up in my car about last week. Everything works fine and all that. The stereo would automatically turn off once I turn the car off. But, What I didn't know is that the there was a fuse missing for the radio. Everything was still working good.
Now, I'm in the process of figuring out why my fuel gauge isn't working. The person working on my car said that I had two fuses missing, So I went to buy them. Now, Since I have my radio fuse on, My stereo wont turn off automatically when I turn off the car. I turn off the car and the radio is still on, Unless I turn it off manually. I moved the face off, Now there's a red light that blinks about every four seconds.
I'm not sure if this is normal. I don"t want my battery to die or anything. My question is if its normal.

FlaJunkie 06-09-2011, 07:22:47 PM There are two hot leads to the radio, one from the ignition switch and one from the hot accessory, depending on the setup. Sounds like both of yours are hooked up to the same source, so the radio doesn't know when to turn off.

Is it normal? Would it kill my battery?

I doubt it. Who installed the radio? The simple directions show which wires go where.

I see, I don't know if there's a wire going straight into the fuse box. Only thing I'm concerned about is if its draining the battery while the car is off. I dont want to constantly keep disconnecting and reconnecting the wires.

of the fuse box it should say like acc and an opening below it with is one of the power wires for the raido. id say if it was fine with out the fuse then just keep the fuse out till you figure out why excatly its doing it.

Alright, Ill check it out. Is there something wrong if having the fuse and wire at the same time?

From what I seen.mind you i'm no expert is that after they whent from a complete slide out radio for security, the removable face plates had blinkers to let thieves know there wasn't a face plate on the car..So they would spare your window, seeing the blinky, blink..
Did it work?..Who knows.
Twisted_Metal 06-09-2011, 11:48:26 PM Turn off the radio manually when you shut off the car.
I've had mine wired like that for years.
(I like to listen the the end of a song without killing the radio when I shut of the car.)
One circuit draws a little power to keep your LED light blinking, station presets, settings and clock etc.
The other circuit is controlled by the on/off of the stereo. When it's off, it isn't drawing any power.
1971CamaroGuy 06-11-2011, 07:16:42 AM That blinking light is a anit-theft feature as mentioned previously. Some manufacturers went as fars as to provide hook-ups to your pin switches so that when the doors opened...it set off sound through the speakers I think.
It shouldn't drain your battery if the car is driven normally, I'm not sure if it sits for a long time. I do know on my vette my led light blinked on my radio for at least 3-4 months without starting the car.

I see, I drive it at least two times a week.
