I recently purchased a 73 camaro. The VIN plate is really worn down. The only thing I can see is the top line, but the interior/exterior codes and anything else that may be useful, are worn off. Is there anything I can do to find out what it says? I've already tried a piece of paper and a pencil, it helped out some, but not enough. Thanks......

Does the title/registration not have the VIN #? If it is a LA built car I would first check the build sheet hiding spots. If no luck then I would remove the trim tag and see if the info is readable from the back side. This is just my opinion but I am sure there may be another option.
Good luck

I read on this post once that there are other places that the vin numbers can be found. One I think was behind the blower motor cover or something. Maybe someone will reply with the answer. You could check the old posts.

You must be talking about the cowl tag. The VIN tag has only one line, and that is the official VIN of the car. The cowl tag has the body number, and the interior and exterior codes on it. Since all 73 Camaros were built in Norwood, your odds of finding a build sheet are slim at best.
The cowl tag information is usually found only on the cowl tag and the build sheet, so you probably will have to guess at what it originally said.

I agree with Gary's comment that the original post seems to be talking about the cowl tag.As far as the VIN number I am almost done with a frame off on a 1970 Z-28 and I can tell you I found the last six digits of the VIN number stamped under the cover in the heater box area. They are definately there and if I remember correctly, they are stamped upside down. They also are in the same place on the 1969 Camaro's. That however has nothing to do with the body number which is on the Cowl Tag. Hope that helps. Cliff K. LT1Z28
