Sorry about this, I know its no Camaro question but it is at least an F-body question. I have the chance to buy a pretty worn Pontiac Firebir Formula 350 -70. Something to use as an daily driver during the summers because the Camaro is only driven in sunshine nowdays.

I wounder how do I confirm that this car is a real Formula, there must be something on the trim tag.

Try this link they have so much info on Firebirds, www.formulasource.com (http://www.formulasource.com) . I personally don't know how to decode a Firebird, maybe someone else has an idea.

There was tons and tons of info on there about all years. From that site:

1971 V.I.N. Break-down
digit=#1 GM line number:
Pontiac = 2
digit=#2 Series number:
Firebird = 2
digit=#3 Model/Engine number:
3 = Standard model
4 = Esprit V8
6 = Formula V8
8 = Trans Am V8
digit=#4 and #5 Body Type number:
87 = Sport Coupe
digit=#6 Last digit of model year:
0 = 1970
1 = 1971
digit=#7 Letter indicating assembly plant:
L = Van Nuys, California
N = Norwood, Ohio
3 = U = Lordstown, Ohio
digit=#8-#12 Sequential production
number starting with 600001 for 6-cylinder models and 100001 for V8 models
