View Full Version : any numbers on frame? 71ss396 12-26-2003, 10:31:00 PM is there any serial numbers on the frame or anywhere else on the chassis? Thanks WS6 12-27-2003, 09:00:00 AM What frame? Camaros don't have a frame to speak off. ------------------ Mike 2002 Trans AM WS6 build #3124 - Pewter 2001 GMC Ext Cab SLT Z71 - Green gin man 12-27-2003, 08:21:00 PM The VIN is usually on the subframe somewhere. Mine was on the driver's side back by the transmission. LT1Z28 12-30-2003, 01:55:00 PM I have only dealt with two Camaro restorations but in both cases the last six digits of the VIN are stamped upside down in the area of the Heater Box Cover on the engine firewall. The numbers can only be seen with the cover off. My 1970 which is under restoration now shows the numbers exactly in that place. Hope that helps you. <font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Originally posted by 71ss396: is there any serial numbers on the frame or anywhere else on the chassis? I have not seen any confidential partial VIN numbers on the "frame" other than pics on this site, but I would ask the members that have UNTOUCHED original survivors if their cars have frame numbers besides the other confidential VINS (heater box area, for example). I just wonder if the frame numbers were placed there by owners at some point rather than GM. MadMike 12-31-2003, 06:30:00 PM All the (sub)frames I've seen had date codes on them. None of them had partial vins. gin man 12-31-2003, 08:37:00 PM I'm the original owner of my 70 so I know the nmber had to have been applied at the factory. CamarosRus 01-01-2004, 07:37:00 PM SOMEBODY reading this thread .....PLEASE send me Email with picture showing factory frame stamping!!!!!!Chuck vfitom2aol.com 01-01-2004, 07:48:00 PM I'd like to see it AGAIN too. Post it on this site if possible. gin man 01-02-2004, 10:40:00 AM Talk my wife into letting me get a digital camera and I'd be happy to e-mail a picture. 70-SS/RS-L78 01-03-2004, 02:51:00 PM I have looked..and looked..and looked and I have never seen a VIN on a 71-73 Camaro subframe. I have seen the Date Code but No VIN. I would also like to see pictures of one along with the year and model of the car. Looks like Mark was correct. My car is a 04B 1970 Norwood car and the number on the frame was 4 670N2. I'm assuming that decodes to 4-April 6-6th day of April 70-1970 N-Norwood 2-? Oh well, at least now I know. vfitom2aol.com 01-04-2004, 12:20:00 PM Yes, thanks for checking and verifying that. Since the year 1975 with my involvement with Camaros, I had yet to see a confidential VIN on the frame that was PUT there by the factory. 12bolt 01-07-2004, 09:18:00 AM <font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Originally posted by CamarosRus: SOMEBODY reading this thread .....PLEASE send me Email with picture showing factory frame stamping!!!!!!Chuck</font> Chuck...are you looking for a pic of the date code stamping or an actual VIN on the frame?
