What frame? Camaros don't have a frame to speak off.

The VIN is usually on the subframe somewhere. Mine was on the driver's side back by the transmission.

I have only dealt with two Camaro restorations but in both cases the last six digits of the VIN are stamped upside down in the area of the Heater Box Cover on the engine firewall. The numbers can only be seen with the cover off. My 1970 which is under restoration now shows the numbers exactly in that place. Hope that helps you. <font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Originally posted by 71ss396:

There has been talk on this bb, with pictures also, of numbers on the frame that were supposedly placed there by the factory. I have not seen any confidential partial VIN numbers on the "frame" other than pics on this site, but I would ask the members that have UNTOUCHED original survivors if their cars have frame numbers besides the other confidential VINS (heater box area, for example). I just wonder if the frame numbers were placed there by owners at some point rather than GM.

All the (sub)frames I've seen had date codes on them. None of them had partial vins.

I'm the original owner of my 70 so I know the nmber had to have been applied at the factory.

Talk my wife into letting me get a digital camera and I'd be happy to e-mail a picture.

I have looked..and looked..and looked and I have never seen a VIN on a 71-73 Camaro subframe. I have seen the Date Code but No VIN.
I would also like to see pictures of one along with the year and model of the car.

In the interests of furthering knowledge about our cars and to see if I'm losing it, I went out in the cold garage and got underneath the car to see the number I was referring to on the frame.
Looks like Mark was correct. My car is a 04B 1970 Norwood car and the number on the frame was 4 670N2. I'm assuming that decodes to
4-April
6-6th day of April
70-1970
N-Norwood
2-?
Oh well, at least now I know.

Yes, thanks for checking and verifying that. Since the year 1975 with my involvement with Camaros, I had yet to see a confidential VIN on the frame that was PUT there by the factory.

Chuck...are you looking for a pic of the date code stamping or an actual VIN on the frame? If its the date code stamping you're looking for, I'll get you one later (much later) tonight.
