The engine is for sale and I looked at it today. On the deck pad the small code read:

3970010 I know it could be a 4 or 2 bolt main
The guy doesnt have a clue whether its a 2 or 4 bolt. The motor has been rebuilt and never ran. It has the oil pan and all on I would hate to tear it all apart to find out.
He gave me the Number of the Machine shop
that did the rebuilt im gonna call them tomorrow.Any Info would be appreciated.
Thanks ,Chris

My book shows a CKB block to be a 1972 350/ 165 horse motor. 99.9999% sure it's a 2-bolt.

Your info is so detailed. Where do you get it? If it's a particular book, let me know what it is, I would love to have it. I have been using Alan Colvin's book, but your info is much more concise. Having that data available can save you money by not buying the wrong part.

My knowledge comes from many years and many sources mostly Chevrolet parts catalogs and associated publications dating back to 1946.

This book below has Chevelle data but would be the same for every Chevy model, its only one of many that has similar data.

Cars & Parts Magazine "Catalog Chevelle, Malibu & El Camino ID Numbers 1964-87"

They sell these at Amazon.com
