Hi all!

I'm brand new to this board!! http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'd like to ask a question about the VIN of a car that I have bought for 90% http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

The VIN supplied by the seller does not match any of the decoding methods listed on this site.
The owner says its an 80, the VIN seems to be from a 81, at least the first 2 digits match the VIN from a 81, but everything else just seems wrong.

Thats what he has wrote in the ad for the car as being car's VIN. Maybe someone can shed some light upon this! I'd really like to know what I'm buying.

Thanks in advance http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

They are misreading this VIN, they have letters and numbers all mixed up. You need to get them to look at this more closely and give you the right information. I can't even tell which year it is. The digits before the N is the model year, A=1980, B=1081 etc

Maybe someone swapped the vin and data plate.

I think BurningLime71307 might be right about it being a switched VIN.

I decode this VIN like this:

2=Canada (no Second Gen Camaros made in Canada)
G=General Motors
B=Incomplete Vehicle (chassis vans and trucks)
E= 6001-7000 GVR brake system
G=Cutaway Van (partial body van used in mini-motorhomes)
2=3/4 ton
5=Van
K=3.8 liter V6 (I'm betting this isn't right for a van)
2=check digit
N=model year (my list goes only to M=1991, so N could be 1992)
4=GM of Canada-Scarborough
142887=VIN sequence number

If I had to guess here, it looks like he is trying to sell off a Camaro with a VIN from a scrapped Van chassis that was probably sold as a partial body and turned over to some company that makes the mini-motorhomes. Most of this VIN fits, except for possibly the engine.

I asked the seller for the right VIN and he said, somehow he typed the VIN of the van he drives to work with.. D'oh.

He sent another one as being that one of the Camaro:

1p87lan554587

But I still fail to decode it!

Now we are down the right path.

1=USA
P=Camaro
87=2 door coupe
L=350engine/190hp
A=1980
N=Norwood (assembly plant)
554587=production secquence number
