Hi
I have bought a 454 and it have been in a "Truck" before, I dont know what kind of truck but I have the VIN on the block.
Do you guys know where I can decode it so I will be able to see where my engine have been before.

C - Chevrolet Truck Division of GM
4 - Model year ends in 4, 1974; 1984=E, 1994=N
Z - Assembly Plant is Los Angeles,CA
139080 - Production seq no, started at 1000001 and went up. 39,080 truck order built at LA for 1974 model year.

fyi-El Camino's were not trucks.

So the VIN does not tell what kind of truck it have been in.
What kind of trucks was built at the Assembly Plant is Los Angeles,CA?

If you can find the engine appplication code I can tell what type truck(s) and the engine RPO.

That should be stamped next to the VIN derivative on the front edge of block. If its not there, look for a small pad above the timing cover, many trucks have it stamped there.

LA built pickups, Blazers, etc.

Yes, this is the engine application code

01 - Jan
11 - Day (I and 1 used interchangeable)
TRW - 1974 Chevy 3/4 and 1 ton FWD trucks, RPO LS4, 454-245 hp with TH400 trans, 4-bbl carb.

Light duty pickup truck. Not a "big truck".
and not a "truck" (tall deck) block.
