The cowl tags has XX's were the number should go what does that mean? What's OG color? Is my car rare and worth billions of dollar j/k.....

The "xx" means the factory painted the car a color that was not assigned a code for that year.

Based on what I have seen the "custom" color was not a wild "House of Kolor" sort of paint but rather just some other color GM used on other cars but was not offered on Camaros from that year. I once saw a 1970 Z28 in black from the factory with the "xx" code. During the round tailight era black was only offered once, on '71 model year Camaros. Presumably the '70Z I saw was custom ordered and GM went ahead and painted it black.

You will have to look underneath the car for signs of overspray or look at the inside of the door shell to see what the factory painted it with initially.

Put another way, it means "special paint". Usually the code is dashed out, or "---".

The car is painted with a non-standard Camaro paint code. This is not uncommon and as mike mentioned, if you wanted your car black, you could have it painted black, or some other color you wanted the car painted.

I have only seen the dashes, have never seen xx's in place of the paint code. My friend has a 1973 Z28 with PNT CODE -- -- because the car was special ordered black, a color not offered in 73.

So when they primered the car to paint it black what color is the primer? looks like mines is brown with a black paint job. Is Brown the primer that they used to paint your car black?

mine is a - - black car and the primer is red oxide(brownish)
