I have a 1980 Z28 that I am restoring. The transmission has been removed for a rebuild or replacement with an automatic overdrive. I can not find any numbers on the transmission to confirm if it is the original transmission.

Does anybody know where Chevrolet stamped the VIN numbers on a 1980 THM 350. I read Ron Sessions book about rebuilding a THM 350 but I am still unable to locate any stamped numbers on the transmission.

Code should be on the right hand side of the case. My parts book shows the trans code as "JL". This is with the 350 engine.

The transmission numbers are stamped on the right side on the oil pan. The car's VIN is on the RH side also either on the transmission flange or above the pan towards the back of the trans. Chris
