I have an original 73 type LT that I bought from te original owner so I know it is original. When I pulled the engine to do a rebuild, I checked the front pad to make sure the numbers matched. It was 1 number off!!!! The last 4 digits of my VIN is 4332 and the engine has 4331 stamped on it. I know it is the origial motor.... I wonder how often this happened?

I expect it would be pretty rare that it happened, but surely it did happen. any kind of distraction on the assembly line could cause someone to think he was stamping the engine for one car, when it was actually for the car right ahead or behind it.

The people who built these cars surely made mistakes sometimes no matter how much things were doublechecked along the way.
