I've had my 71 for about 9 years but I've never been able to figure this out. My car is a straight 6 car but the vin says it's a V8 car. The second owner who I got the car from said that it came with a turbo charged 250. When I got it all it had was the 6 because the turbo got lost or stolen when he had it apart. The vin is124871L508376. The car was originaly sold in Los Angeles. Has anyone else heard of a car like this?

You are right. the 12487 says it originally had a V8. With a 1971, the exact V8 was not coded into the VIN like it was in later years, so unless you can find a build sheet, you probably can't find out what engine it originally had.
Chevy didn't offer a turbocharged engine in 1971 for the Camaro, so it would have been something someone added to the car later on.

I think it might have been something a dealer did. The bump in the hood for the turbo looks like it came from the factory that way, but it was probably just professionaly done. I did hear about another car like mine but I have never seen one in person.
