I have the block number 378287. It says 1962-65 327 250-375HP 2 bolt main

I Have the numbers off of the front, by the head and can't figure them out. The Numbers are F0825H(C,O,G,Q)The last number I can't clearly make out. Any tricks as to make the letters appear more clearly. The heads and everything else is already off. Thanks for any help.

the only 'H' codes in my books are for 65 model year engines. i would try some acid to help 'bring up' the letter.

Look at your potential choices here:

Use the acid trick. Also check the block casting date to narrow down the possible range of codes. It looks like most of the "H" codes span a range of years.

Thanks guys. What type of acid would be best to use?

Might look for the date code on the back near where the bell housing bolts on, can be seen from top of engine. Something like a D125 or so. This will tie down the year and narrow the choices. Should be no real difference in the bare block anyway though.
