I just picked up a 72 z28 shell in a deal with another complete car. It's a norwood car and the last line has 12a a51 z28 yf8 which is build date first week of December, bucket seats, z28, black stripes. I noticed the yf8 was listed with the 73 information. Do most 72's have the .10 or .19 for stripes as listed or is it a mixed back with the yf8 code actually starting on 72's. This car also appears to be an original column shift car(no holes at all in trans tunnel) I assume that's probably a rare thing unfortunately no one cares I assume. It'll probaly end up having a console and floor shifter.

From what I can find, the .10 and .19 codes were not used in 1972 anymore.
The YF8 code should be the right code for 1972 much like 1973.
I don't have access to any 72 cowl tags to confirm that, but maybe the other 72 Z28; owners can check for you.

YF8 & ZR8 are the stripe codes in 72, same as 73.
They're not orderable options, but forced ones, so most years don't list options that weren't orderable.
I.e. you couldn't order a Camaro with YF8 stripes, and GM kept track of how many cars were equipped and what the cost of the stripes were.
If you ordered a Z28, then these #'s had meaning.
